I am writing to apply for the position of college marketing intern. The internship posting on
LinkedIn caught my eye because of Gannetts stellar reputation in the media industry. As a
sophomore communication major with a concentration in public relations and a constant desire
to improve, I feel that I would be a valuable asset to your team.

During my formative years in middle and high school, I possessed a deep interest in journalism
and frequently read articles in USA TODAY. I served as Editor in Chief of the Saxon Scope
newsmagazine at Langley High School and was fortunate enough to receive career advice from
your employee, Entertainment Assignment Editor Ms. Kim Willis. My early passion for
journalism has since led me to public relations and marketing. I currently serve as Co-Director of
Ut Prosim PR, the Public Relations Student Society of Americas (PRSSA) student-run firm at
Virginia Tech. In this position, I have acquired vital organizational skills by learning how to
effectively manage and mentor a team of 30+ members to produce the best client material
possible. I have always been career-driven, which is why I also thoroughly enjoy my role as
Marketing and Social Media Assistant for Virginia Tech Career and Professional Development.
Expanding the offices presence online and on campus is at the core of what I do, and I develop
marketing materials such as flyers, digital advertisements, infographics and articles to achieve
our mission. It is now my mission to take my experiences and become a successful public
relations professional, and if given the privilege, to continue strengthening my skills at Gannett.
