I have been associated with teaching std 10 ICSE Geography since last 9 years.

I have been successful in

preparing our students for the board exam since last 9 years. During this time, I also attended the
workshop in Kolkata where we were given enough exposure to the way ICSE papers are set by the board
and how we should prepare our students well so that they score well.

However, one aspect was still not clear for me and that was how are corrections made in the board
exam. For this, I got a wonderful opportunity to be part of the board paper correction team based in the
Ahmedabad exam correction centre in Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School, Maninagar.

Our board paper correction schedule was set in a pre-determined scheduled manner in which we were
supposed to follow the following steps

Receive and tally the number of bundles and papers in each bundle as received in boxes in our
name.
Number the papers as per sequence in each bundle as the board had also sequenced them in
the same way
Discuss and make amends in the answer key sent by the board wherever necessary
Check three specimen papers whose Xerox copies were made available to us. After correcting
each paper, we discussed each question to make sure that all examiners marked in the specified
manner
Next day onwards, we were to start actual paper corrections. I had 236 papers for which we has
16 working days. So we kept a target of 20 papers a day and entering marks on the tablets
provided by the board.
After correcting one whole bundle, we were supposed to self review and clarify any doubts with
the exam coordinator. We had to check all questions and ensure that marls of each question
was displayed on the first page in allotted spaces.
At the time of entering the marks on the tablet, we double checked for any mistakes and then
entered marks on the LICR sheets which got transferred on the tablet. The total on the tablet
was to be rechecked with the total on the answer booklet for double verification
The team leader and the exam coordinator would then review three papers from each bundle
for accuracy and correctness and fill up the lower part of the LICR and approve.
After correcting all bundles, we reviewed the papers of all the other examiners and the team
leader and exam coordinators also. During this process, we were able to ensure that all
corrections were done properly.
On the last day, we packed up all the bundles in the same box and prepared them for shipment
to the board.

My learning about the way board papers are marked was enriched to a great extent as I was able to now
clearly identify what was expected of students while they attempted the papers. The key points to be
mentioned for each answer, the manner in which the students are expected to write and much more. I
have become more confident now to help students to score well in their exams. Various new
dimensions were made clearer which I will implement in my classroom teaching learning practices
