Classroom Expectations and
Policies

Expected Behavior
As members of this class, and of this school, you are ALWAYS expected to be respectful
and kind to those around you, to put forward your personal best every day and to
participate and ask questions because we will ALL benefit from it.
A LW AYS B E P REPARED TO L EARN : Each class I expect you to come prepared with the
necessary materials and mentally ready to learn.
Each day, I will post on our door what you will need specifically for that class. Be sure to
check out the sign before lugging around unnecessary materials!

**Every day you will need: your INB, a pencil and a pen.

H O W TO BEGIN CLASS : Every day when you enter our room, you are expected to enter
quietly, take your seat and write down the homework. Next, there will always be a Bell Ringer
on the board that you will complete in the correct section of your INB. Once you have finished
this, wait quietly for class to begin!

Classroom Policies

1. E VALU ATIO N CR ITER IA :

Participation 15%:
Participation means
Coming prepared to class with correct materials and being mentally and
physical ready to learn contribute
Contributing preparation, ideas, and effort to individual and group activities

Graded Homework/Class work 25%: This includes assignments covering
content we have already covered in class. Homework on previously covered material
should be completed before coming to class, and will be graded as a class for
completion and correctness.

Remember! Homework is to help you practice and further your learning. If you are
struggling with it, ask me for extra help! Dont wait until last minute to rush through it, it will
only hurt you in the long run.
Labs (Group and/or Individual) 30%: Labs will be completed in class either in lab
groups, or sometimes individually. The lab activities will occur during class time, but
extra time may be offered during lunch under certain circumstances. Every lab activity
will include:
o Pre-Lab
o Post-Lab
o Lab worksheet
o Reflection write-up

Graded Tests/Performance Assessments - 30%: One to two of each given per
quarter

Remember! Participation is very important in this class! If everyone does no do their
part, class will not be as successful as it can be. We are a team, and must work together in
order to be successful! Due to this, poor participation may result in a call home in order to get
you back on track to contributing to our team.

2. L ATE W O RK : Completing work on time helps you stay on track, and up to date with the
new content. We will be learning a lot of new information this year, so keeping up with
your assignments allows me to make sure you are understanding and ready to move on to
new information.
Activities Graded for Participation: If turned in late, will be marked missing and will
negatively impact your participation grade.
Graded Assignments: Will have points deducted based on the situation after a
discussion me. You are expected to turn in an Assignment Excuse form for every
missing assignment in this class. Too many late/missing assignments may result in a
phone call home.

Remember! The assignment excuse form is not to be overused. This is to help me
understand why you did not turn something in on time. Again, I am here to help you succeed,
and to do so, I have to know why you are missing work. Over-abuse of this form will result in
meeting with me and/or a phone call home.

3. A BSENCES : You are responsible for making up any missing work from when you were
absent. I am here for extra help (See Extra Help), take advantage of this if you are absent!
Steps to Follow When Absent:
1. Be sure to check the Absentee Station before class begins
2. Ask your home group for assistance
3. If necessary, ask me for assistance before/after class, or fill out an Extra Help Slip

6. I N TER ACTIVE N O TEBO O K : Our class will use an INB to help you stay organized and
keep everything in a useful and neat binder.

YOUR INB WILL CONTAIN:
1. Homework: New/Old homework assignments
2. Bell Ringers: A section of the INB will be used specifically for Bell Ringer
questions, these will be randomly checked throughout the year, so be
sure to answer them if absent!
3. Handouts: any handouts from class-this may include graphic organizers,
note guides, articles, etc.
4. Returned Work: Graded homework, tests, and quizzes
5. Labs: We will be performing labs during each unit, and all labs are to be
kept by unit in your INB for future reference.

Remember! The purpose of the INB is to help you stay organized. Your INB will be a very
useful study tool, so be sure to make use of it, and keep it neat!

8. G RAD ING S CALE :
We will follow the schools core class grading policy:
A = 100 - 94
B = 93 - 86
C = 85 - 78
D = 77 - 70
E = Below 70

Participation Grading: A "point" system will be used for participation points as well
as some homework grades:
+ = 100
= 80
= 60
(A combination may also be used, such as /+ = 90 or /- = 70)

Extra Help Please dont be afraid to ask for help! I am here to help you succeed! You
can schedule time before or after school, or even during lunch. Simply fill out an Extra Help
Slip and drop it in the box on my desk if you need my help.

This information is here to help you understand what it takes to be successful in this class. I
know each and every one of you have the ability to excel in my class, and I will always do my
best to help you in any way possible. However, this means you also need to be doing YOUR very
best to stay on track, follow the rules, and to always do your best work. If we work together
and make this classroom one of high expectations, and respect, we will have an AWESOME
year. Please feel free to come to me with any questions or concerns about the upcoming year, I
cant wait to begin!
