Financial Aid Reflection

(I am using my financial aid report from CSUSM as reference for these questions. However, I have not yet
accepted admission to any campus.)

1. What financial assistance does the FAFSA offer? Based on your application, do you
qualify for assistance through the FAFSA? If so, how much do you expect to receive and
how will you use this money?
FAFSA offers grants, loans, and work study opportunities to eligible students.
Based on my application, I qualify for assistance through the FAFSA. Based on
my award summary, I can expect to receive a total of $18,832 of financial aid from
California State University San Marcos. This money would go toward tuition,
housing, materials, and transportation.

2. Are you eligible to receive the Cal Grant? If so, how much do you expect to receive and
how will you use this money?
I am eligible to receive the Cal Grant for the 2017-2018 school year. I would
receive Cal Grant B, which provides financial support for living expenses. I can
expect to receive a total of $1,670. $835 would go toward my fall semester and
$835 would go toward my spring semester. I would use this money to pay for my
tuition, housing, materials, and transportation.

3. Describe your findings from the school specific search in Part 3. Do you plan on applying
to any of the grants or scholarships available at your campus? If so, to which are you
planning to apply and how much do you expect to receive if you are accepted?

At CSUSM, I would be eligible to apply for the Carol Cox Scholarship and the
UARSC Scholarship. The Carol Cox Scholarship is awarded to full time female
students who have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. This scholarship would award $769.
The UARSC Scholarship has no requirements and can be awarded to any student,
regardless of their GPA, major, or gender. This scholarship varies in awards.
Because I have missed the deadline, I do not plan on applying for any of the
scholarships available at this campus.

4. Describe your findings from the private scholarship search in Part 4. Do you plan on
applying to any of the scholarships available? If so, to which are you planning to apply
and how much do you expect to receive if you are accepted?

There are many different private scholarships offered by corporate, professional,

trade, government, and social organizations. One private scholarship that I looked
into was the Super-college $1000 Monthly College Scholarship. The Super-college
$1000 Monthly College Scholarship is eligible to any student graduating in 2016,
2017, or 2018 who plans to attend a college or university in the United States. It is
not merit, gender, or religion based. I applied to this scholarship and would expect
to receive $1000 if accepted.
