The Ideal of Perfect Religion

In honour of r Rm Navam today, we are presenting an excerpt from a
lecture rla Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswm Mahrj gave on this
day in which he explains in brief the character of Rmachandra.

rla Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj:

There are many stories about Rmachandra in the Rmyaa, and

the Rmyaa is so long. It is not possible to explain everything about
Rmachandra in a short time. Everything, however, is explained
about Rmachandra in gist form in His pram mantra.

rma rjva-lochana raghu-vara sta-pati sundara

kkuthsa karumaya gua-nidhi vipra-priya dhrmikam
rjendra satya-sandha daaratha-tanaya ymala nta-
mrtim
vande lokbhirma raghu-kula-tilaka rghavam rvarim

Rma Rjva-lochanam Raghu-vara, Rma was born in the Raghu

dynasty and His eyes are like lotus petals. St-Pati, He is the

husband of Mahlakm, r St Dev. Sundara, He is very beautiful
looking. Kkuthsa, He is very respectable. Karumaya, He is very
merciful to everyone. Guna-nidhi, we cannot say how many beautiful
qualities He has. Vipra-priya, all the brhmas give great respect and
affection to Him. Dhrmikam Rjendra, He shows the ideal of perfect
religion, and He is the king of kings. Satya-sandha, He does whatever
He thinks, that is, everything He thinks and does is truthful and
honest. Daaratha-tanaya, He is the son of Rja Daarath. ymala,
His complexion is a beautiful yma-vara. Krishna is tamla-yma,
bluish black, but Rmachandras complexion is greenish like a lotus
leaf. nta-mrti, His mind is always peaceful. Whether He is facing
many disturbances or He is feeling great happiness, He always
remains peaceful like an ocean. Lokbhirma, everyone likes to see
Him and everyone respects Him. Raghu-kula-tilaka Rghavam, He is
the jewel of Raghu family and is thus called Rghava. Rvarim, He is
the enemy and rescuer of Rva.
