Student Learning Outcomes

Over the course of the spring semester of 2017, I have worked towards fulfilling and exceeding

in English 113 course through assignments, and workshops that were key to understanding the

material. I have also been working on multiple skills over the course of the semester that are

really important to understanding and having a better ability to write. This course has helped in

many ways, building my ability to write in different genres, styles and types.

All the assignments we have done over the course of the semester, related to rhetorical situation

and genre, is as for example, our Discourse Community papers. We had to identify our audience,

as well to select the best way possible to be able to transmit more efficiently what we are going

to talk about, also keeping in mind genre.

Over the course of the semester and through assignments, I have been able to identify when we

write as a social act. I have been able to write about many topics that can identify with many

cultures and traditions, this is a way it could be understood at a much higher level. An example

would be my Discourse about guitar history, explaining how cultures and areas affected guitar

playing and the instrument, gives people more knowledge about the topic, making it more

interesting and useful.

When I was writing at the beginning of the semester, it was not as good as I feel it is today. This

is because I have learned many skills that can help me very much with writing as a process, such

as planning a paper, increase my skills in research, prewriting many of my assignments,

Revising, editing, etc. These helped me to be more confident when I am writing, and also, gave

me a more open mind and ideas I can have in future projects.

Grammar was always a problem before, I had man grammatical errors I never knew of until the

day I turned in a paper and had feedback. But, because we had many workshops were other peers

and each of us worked on somebody elses paper, I could get more feedback, more criticism that

greatly helped me with my grammar. Also, many of the assignments helped me more conscious

for checking grammar.

Incorporating many of other languages and dialects into ones own work, gives a feeling that we

are interested in not only trying to write in a single way, but we are also trying to make it more

diverse. Trying to add many key words into a document, can greatly change how we perceive it

and how we understand it as well. In my memoir about a personal event, I included many words

that were compliment to it, and gave the paper more diversity.

I have learned many things during the curse of the semester in this class, I have been able to

learn more ways of writing, critically think as a write, be able to identify error in my grammar

and spelling, and also include more diversity. This is one of the classes that are really helpful,

and I plan to keep applying all that I have learned, into future papers and projects.
