Dear Mrs. Criswell:

I have almost six years of experience working on a newspaper, and Id love to

bring my experience and passion for journalism to The Reflector. I am applying for
both the Feature Editor and News Editor positions and would be excited to fill either
position.
For the last semester, I have been the Feature Editor for The Reflector and
The Reflector Online. The previous semesters, I worked as both an Editorial
Assistant and a Staff Writer for The Reflector and The Reflector Online. Prior to that,
during my four years of high school, I worked for Jefferson High Schools student run
newspaper, The BOOSTER. My senior year, I was the Editor-in-Chief and led a staff
of about 25 students in writing, editing, and designing the paper. Under my
leadership, The BOOSTER received a First Place Award from the Indiana High School
Scholastic Press Association. I will bring the same leadership, writing, editing, and
designing talents that helped win that award to The Reflector if I am chosen for the
feature editor position.
Through work on The BOOSTER, I not only gained experience in writing and
editing but in Adobe InDesign CS5. I worked with the program for two years in high
school and was mostly self-taught. I am looking forward to having the opportunity to
improve and revisit those skills.
In addition to my experience and skills, I have a love for writing both feature
and news articles. I enjoy highlighting our diverse population and its
accomplishments through the feature page as well as contributing to themed
spreads. I also like to cover campus news stories, especially events, new faculty
and more investigative pieces. I would love to be able to show that passion through
choosing and writing stories, and designing the feature or news pages.
I have enjoyed my time in the field of journalism and on The Reflector thus
far and would like to do even more for the newspaper and online publication
through the Feature or News Editor positions. Thank you for considering me for
