Instructions

1. Insert your name above and include it in the name of this file. I am not particular about
how you name your file, but I want your name included.
2. Please use Calibri 11-point font.
3. Fill in the blanks where I have indicated. Use complete sentences and paragraphs.
4. I have included examples for each task I ask of you (indicated by italics). Some examples
are of my own making, some are from previous students. I suggest you read them.
5. Blue highlight and enlarged Arial font are used to indicate the areas in which you are to
enter your work.
6. Read each rubric. I am very clear about what it means to do exemplary work. If something
is not clear to you, ask me before I grade your work (not after).
7. Use APA Style for formatting in-text citations and references. Our Moodle course site
contains a chart entitled How to Cite Something Your Found on a Website in APA Style:
What to Do When Information is Missing. Please use it!
8. As you work through each phase of the ADDIE process, think about how you could apply
this to your daily life.

And this. And thats all I need! The Needs Assessment

Compose the Needs Assessment

Well Im gonna to go then. And I dont need any of this. I dont need this stuff, and I dont need you. I dont need
anything except this. And thats it and thats the only thing I need, is this. I dont need this or this. Just this ashtray.
And this paddle game, the ashtray and the paddle game and thats all I need. And this remote control. The ashtray,
the paddle game, and the remote control, and thats all I need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches,
and the remote control and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the remote control and
the lamp and thats all I need. And thats all I need too. I dont need one other thing, not one I need this. The paddle
game, and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches, for sure. And this. And thats all I need. The ashtray,
the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair. - Steve Martin in The Jerk.

Note: The purpose of a needs assessment is to help us make informed and reasonable
decisions to solve our problems. If Steve Martins character in The Jerk had conducted a needs
assessment, he may have had an easier time leaving the house!

So, what is a need? A need is the measurable discrepancy (or gap) between current and desired
conditions. As part of our analysis process, we analyze our needs and our potential solutions to
help us decide on a course of action. If you were working on a grant proposal, for example, the
needs assessment section would be very extensive. For our purposes, the needs assessment is
informal and brief.

Begin with the End in Mind: Write the Goal.
Write one overarching goal that you would like to achieve by using this mTool. Your goal must be
closely related to the Problem Statement and the Desired Condition discussed in the Needs
Assessment.

Example of a Goal
The Goal: Using the ADDIE process, create an assignment for the CIS 385 class that provides
my students an optimal set of experiences to bring into the work world using an mTool that is
relevant to the work force, regardless of discipline.

Write the Goal.

The Goal: Since I am working remotely for Stoneridge Software, there will need to be an mTool
that can be used so I can see how to properly use the companys website program.

Its All Good! Describe the Solution
Now that you have worked through the analysis of your problem and its implications, discuss in-
depth, why you chose this mTool product according to the instructions below. In the finished
product, delete the list of bullets and questions. Use complete sentences and paragraphs.

You may use the mTool product webpage, any mTool review sites you find, blog posts, wikis,
social media posts by users, etc. to find information about this tool. Support the statements you
make with facts and reflections; this is not an opinion paper, but you may use your personal
experience to support or refute information. Someone elses opinion can also be used as long as
it is cited.

Required Items:
1. Explanation. Why did you choose this mTool product? Be sure your explanation aligns with the
Problem Statement and Needs Assessment.
2. Description. Include a specific and thorough description of the mTool. Your description must
include screen shots.
a. Name. What is the name of the mTool you chose?
b. Users. Who is the typical user of this mTool?
c. Resources. Where can the tool be used? Is it web-based? Does it need to be
downloaded? If so, how is its local resource consumption?
d. File Storage. Can products of the tool be saved to the hard drive, if desired? If yes, are
the files sent to a specific folder?
e. Limitations. Is there a limit to how much a free user can do? Does the free version allow
full functionality?
f. The goal. How will this solution help you meet your goal?
3. Screen shots are REQUIRED. Screen shots must be relevant to the description. If
you do not include screen shots, you will earn a zero for this section (to
demonstrate their importance to this process). Include screen shots of the mTool
itself (not the website description of it). Remember to cite the image in-text and include it
in the References list.

Example of a Solution Description

For the specific issue our development staff is experiencing I chose Teamwork for a
solution. The typical user of this mTool is anyone who needs to keep track of a project(s)
that have a variety of tasks that need to be completed. This tool is completely web-
based, you do not need to download anything and it does not consume any local
storage. However, you can download a IOS or Android application on your phone to make
the tool easily accessible over the mobile version of the application.

(Problem Solved, 2016)

Reports can be generated and must be saved to the local hard drive to be viewed. The
application does allow you to view reports within the application itself while using the
7
Gantt Chart feature. The reports can also be saved in PDF or Excel format. The files are
not saved to a specific folder but can be saved to any folder the user decides upon
generating the report.

(Problem Solved, 2016)

There is limited functionality provided to free users during the trial period. The free user
is limited to the SMALL OFFICE plan. The SMALL OFFICE plan offers the user the ability to
save up to twenty gigabytes of file storage for their projects. After the trial period has
been completed, if the user remains on the free plan, their storage will revert to 100mb
and they will be allowed a maximum of two open projects (Problem Solved, 2016). They
are also limited to 40 open projects at a time and do not have the ability to create
reports in a custom Cascading Style Sheet.

8
Teamwork will help us fulfill our goal because we are able to create individual tasks and
subtasks within the project and provide additional notes for each task. This will help
development team members understand the task at hand and give them the information
needed to resolve the issue effectively.

Describe your Solution.
The proper mTool that will be used for my problem is Skype for Business. Skype for Business is
becoming a more and more popular program for businesses around the world. It is being used
by many organizations today, including Mayville State! Skype for Business lets you connect
with co-workers or business partners in your company or around the world. The most important
feature of this mTool that will help solve my problem is the ability to present your screen during
meetings. Luckily, Stoneridge Software already has Skype for Business available for me to use,
but if they were to not have it, there are a
couple of different purchasing options.
They include:

The most important part of using this tool to solve my problem is the availability to share your
screen with whomever you are meeting with. It is quite simple to do!

10
When I am in a call with a team
member, there will be a desktop
icon and when it is selected, the
options that appear in the image
above will appear. Present
desktop will be the option that I
will want to use.

The image above is what will appear when a screen is being shared.

Another important feature that can be used when using the sharing of desktop option is
the give control option. When presenting, there will be a Give control option found
on the top of the screen that is being shared.

This option will be beneficial when it comes to solving my problem because I can be
shown exactly how to work the program, while also having some assistance if needed.

Skype for Business will be the solution to my problem/goal because I simply just need to
be shown how to do certain parts of the task that I was assigned to do and this mTool
will definitely allow for me to get the help that I need.
