School Uniforms
Today in some public schools students may or may not be required to wear
uniforms. Opposing viewpoints say that it helps the students in classes be more
orderly and discipline if they wear uniforms. Also helps them focus on what is more
important such as grades and school attendance instead which shoe matches better
with the outfit they are wearing. On the other hand of the argument some say that
public schools that dont wear school uniforms, dont effect a students education.
Then that it limits the students freedom to express the way they want to dress.
Exceeding their creativity to dress up and show their different culture through
fashion. I believe that public and private schools should wear uniforms because
students should want to pursue their goals maintain their education knowledge.
The most important reason for school uniforms is to decrease student
violence. Wearing school uniforms should be required for not only private but public
schools as well, reason for this it can impact the students behavior not only in class
but towards their peers. Also uniforms for schools can provide a safe environment
for students to learn. Uniforms can reduce bullying and close the gap between the
poor and rich students. Dress codes can reduce conflict between name brands and
gang clothing with leads to an unhealthy environment. Expensive clothing brands
such as, Nike, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, etc. often put students at the risk of
theft and violence from other students. According to the article, School Dress
Codes are Necessary and Constitutional it states that, The National School Safety
and Security Services, an organization that consults nationwide on school safety by
supporting dress codes as a way to contribute toward improving the school climate
because it can play a significant role in reducing security threats and improving the
school safety. The safety organization states in the article it can reduce potential
problems like, reducing the risk of students being robbed of expensive clothing and
jewelry, reducing ways in which gang members can identify themselves in which, in
essence, is a form of intimidation and creates fear, and reduce conflicting stemming
from socioeconomic status, such as comments and personal attacks about who has
better clothing. Promoting school safety is the first thing school uniforms and dress
codes can help students and the environment they educate themselves in.
School Dress Codes are Necessary and Constitutional, is an article that
remarks a surveyed conducted by the National Association of Elementary School
Principals, say that one out of five private or private schools want to enforce dress
codes and uniforms or already require it for students. The reason for the uniforms in
schools is to address the issue of discipline and academic achievement. Students
interrupting class is a problem in today's schools. According to one survey by the
NAESP, principals of schools that have uniform policies in place believe that
students stay more discipline and focuses in their studies and feel less peer

pressure to mess around in class and cause disruptions. In the opposing viewpoints
article it quotes, According to the study, principals identified the following effects of
school uniforms: 79 percent believed uniforms positively affected classroom
behavior; 67 percent saw an improvement in student concentration; 85 percent
noted a better perception of the school by the community; and 75 percent indicated
a positive effect on peer pressure among students. School uniforms have a great
effect on students to be more stabilized in the work study and complete more
academic achievements like honor roll and higher gpa.
