The Authors
PRE-K
We, the Pre-K class is the biggest class in the school. We
have 15 awesome students. Laughing, playing, learning,
and being creative is part of our daily routine. Our contri-
bution to the Lovely Planet focused on animals and plants.
We collaborated with grade 1 to sort the amazing wild an-
imals weve seen in Rumbai. We sorted the animals by
their body coverings. We also placed the animals on a map
of Rumbai to show where the animals have been spotted.
Our contribution about plants focused on native plants
to Indonesia. We drew some of the very unique plants
and labeled them. Throughout the project, our favorite
part was working with Grade 1 and sorting the animals.

Kindergarten
We are Kindergarten- There our 7 people in our class. 3
girls and 4 boys. We contributed to the getting around
portion of the Lovely Planet. It includes information on
what type of transportation you can find in Pekanbaru and
Rumbai and how to get to Rumbai. I hope you like it and it
helps you during your stay here. We had a lot of fun learn-
ing and writing about transportation. Rilyn, Clara, Joaqui-
na, Ryan, Nathan, Jacob, Ahren, Ms. Connie, and Ibu Diana

Grade 1
We are grade one heroes! We work hard and try our
best. We try to accomplish things and try to make
our school better. We make learning fun! We write
a lot and read a lot. We learn new words and make
new words and we have fun while we are doing it.
In this book we made some maps where you can see an-
imals. We made timelines about old things in the school
like playgrounds. We also show the bridge in Rum-
bai because thats how you get to camp these days.
We really enjoyed making the timeline and working
with pre-K. We liked working with the other kids when
we wrote the reviews. This book is going to be great!

The Authors
Grade 2
There are 12 students in Grade 2. We are kind, caring and
sometimes funny. We come from many different places
including; USA, Canada, Venezuela, South Africa, Germany,
Kazakhstan and Thailand. We love living in Rumbai. Our
contributions to the Lovely Planet Pekanbaru are Maps of the
world, Asia, Indonesia, Sumatra, Riau, Pekanbaru and Chev-
ron Camp Rumbai. We have also contributed landmarks
and landforms found in camp and Pekanbaru. Our favourite
part of this project has been writing reviews and working
together as a team. Emma, Maya, Amira, Rachel, Kaley, Pe-
ter, Skye, Charlotte, Jacob, Daniel, Nathaniel, Rayyan, Bryan

Grade 3
We are Grade 3- a creative, amazing and intelligent group.
Sometimes we can be loud and crazy students. Our contri-
butions to Lovely Planet included information about weather
in Indonesia and housing. Collecting data from the weath-
er station was very interesting. You will find graphs and
weather reports. We also become experts on houses es-
pecially roofs. The best parts of this project were learning
new information, doing experiments, working on the com-
puter and editing. During the project our school became
a team by working with the younger kids, getting to know
them better and using the community. Melodi, Max, An-
nie, James, Nikki, Timo, Sorina, Sophie and Ms. Rutledge
Grade 4
Grade 4 have been dedicated researchers learning about
Pekanbaru and Rumbai. There have been times of joy and
frustration, all of which has resulted in them discovering
facts to include in this book about the history of Pekan-
baru, languages, religions, population traditional clothing
and money. As a team they planned and wrote the intro-
duction. We really enjoyed learning more about where
we live and the activities we did with the whole school
it gave them chance to work on their GREATS and devel-
op their team working skills. The grade 4 of 2016-17
is made up of 1 boy, Lewys Brooks, and 5 girls, Annette
Szczurko, Gabriella van Staden, Sarah Smith, Sophie Sortor
and Wesley Lichtenauer. The teaching assistant is Ibu Yovi
and our teacher is Ms. Bradley. We have all loved being
part of creating this book together as an ISR community.

triates, are blessed to call our homeour kampung. And if only here

sia, but of the world. Inhabited by people with a perpetual smile. Flora
and fauna so unique and vibrant. Foods, arts, and crafts that stimu-

FROM THE DIRECTOR

The Lovely Planet has been an amazing collaboration between all grades in
our school. In todays world it is important to have transferable subject skills.
The Lovely Planet collaboration allows the students to work across subject
disciplines to develop a richer and deeper holistic learning experience.

The school recognises that learning in context is important. As a

community of learners we want to provide the students at ISR with
authentic learning experiences.

I am extremely proud of the ISR students and how they have developed this
project. It is a testament to their organisational, collaboration, research and
time management skills. Well done to all the students on a successful book.

may be inaccuracies. The students were in Grade PreK to Grade 5. Things change
and we might have made a mistake. Please contact us if you have any concerns.

Please be sure to do do some extra research, not all the information is in this
travel guide. You might want to spend some time thinking about where to
stay, how to best travel here, what medical supplies or medicine you need
to bring as well as some countries need a special VISA to come and visit.

We strongly advise you to learn some of the language, the basics (see our Language
page) will help you to have a more enjoyable trip. It is important to be cautious
with the pronunciation, it can change the meaning of a word. Asking a local In-
donesian who can speak English and Bahasa is a good idea, they are very friendly.

DANGERS

There some dangers in the area including animals such as monkeys, snakes, in-
sects and plants you should not eat. Mosquitos can carry disease so remember
your bug spray.

Indonesia has many storms and a very hot sun. Weather in Indonesia does not
stay the same it rains hard when it rains and the sun is extremely hot so make
sure you have water to keep you hydrated.

You will love your trip to Pekanbaru if you are prepared.

SYMBOLS

The fifth grade class made a collage to represent Pekanbaru for their class
passports. Each student contributed a different symbol to the collage. In their
own words, they have explained why these symbols represent life in Pekanbaru.

I chose the monkey as the symbol for Pekanbaru. It is one the main animal in Pe-
kanbaru. Camp is crawling with monkeys. They are fun to look but are a men-
ace because dig through your trash and and sometimes chase you. BEWARE!

I chose the palm tree as a symbol for Pekanbaru in our class collage because they are every-
where. The tree in the picture is a coconut palm tree, but there are lots of different types of palm
trees, like the sawit. I have seen and eaten coconut (I didnt like it), so I have experienced it. I
think it was a good thing to pick because you can see palm trees a lot here, and thats what a
lot of people know about here.I chose the coconut palm for the picture because Pekanbaru is
in Sumatra and Sumatra is tropical, and when I think of tropical places I think of coconut trees.

The monitor lizard was included as a symbol for Pekanbaru in our class collage. The monitor
lizard is a lizard that is very common here. I have experienced this by seeing them while driving
through camp or walking on the street.The monitor lizard is a good symbol for Pekanbaru be-
cause we see them often. Our classmate, Furqan, drew the monitor lizard before he moved away.

I added a durian as a symbol for Pekanbaru in our class collage. Durian is a special
fruit that most Indonesians love. Durian is famous for its extremely strong smell. In
some places you are not allowed to bring a durian inside. I have never tasted duri-
an but I have smelled it a couple of times. Durian is an important fruit to Indonesia.

I drew the Rafflesia, or known as the corpse flower It is called that because, as a symbol for
Pekanbaru in our class collage because I thought that the Rafflesia would be a good symbol
for these 2 reasons, because it only grows in Indonesia and it is the biggest flower in the
world. Yeah I know amazing! But dont get to excited because if you get too close, it will feel
like your nose hairs are burning. I have no personal experience nor do I want to have any
because who wants to smell a flower called the corpse flower. EW! No dead bodies for me!

I chose the tiger as a symbol for pekanbaru in our class collage. The tiger is a very large cat,
and is orange with black stripes. It is wild, and its natural habitat is in the jungles of the Su-
matra. That is the reason I put leaves around it to symbolize that it is in its natural habitat. I
have never seen an actual tiger here on camp, so I have no experiences with it yet, but I have
seen them in zoos, and I hope to see one in real life here! It is a good symbol for pekan-
baru, because they are a very prevalent part of pekanbaru. Even though they are very rare,
they still live, or lived here, and that makes them special. Plus, they are our school symbol.

I made the flags in the collage because they show the air quality in Pekanbaru. I have
experienced green flag and yellow flag but not red flag because I came . The flags
show the air quality so you know when to wear your mask outside. We use the masks
so we dont get the smoke go into our lunges. Smoke is unhealthy to breathe in.

HISTORY

Pekanbaru began as a small village called Payung Sekaki located on the Siak river bank. In
1749 the Dutch came to Indonesia and ruled for 350 years. On June 23rd,1784 the small
village was renamed as Pekanbaru. From that day forward, the 23rd June is known as Pe-
kanbarus birthday and it is celebrated. The Dutch helped build roads and upgrading the
infrastructure of the ports as well. In 1942 the Japanese came and ruled over Indonesia for 3
years. In the past Sumatran Elephants and Sumatran Tigers roamed around the jungle freely,
but now the numbers of these animals are less. They are becoming extinct because there is
not a lot of jungle for them to live in and they have been poached. In the past Pekanbaru was
mostly jungle, but now they have cut down the jungle to plant palm oil plants, rubber trees
and to develop oil fields. There where mangrove trees along the rivers, but now there is an oil
tank storage instead. This has decreased the animal habitat and has changed the ecosystem.

POPULATION, RELIGION, & LANGUAGE

POPULATION
There are a lot of people living in Pe-
kanbaru. In 2015 there were 6,344,000
people living in the province of Riau. The
last known population of Pekanbaru was
882,000 people which was recorded in
2010. Based on this data, there is an es-
timation of 1,187,724 people living in
Pekanbaru in 2017. There is not much
information relating specifically to Pekan-
baru, but I managed to find these known
populations. In 1990 there were 341,260,
and in 2000 there were 576,610. As you
drive around the streets of Pekanbaru,
you will see a lot of people, including chil-
dren and a lot of houses where they live.
LANGUAGE
In Pekanbaru there are many languages
spoken by the people who live here. The
first language, which is the national lan-
guage is Bahasa. Most people speak Ba-
hasa, however with the movement of peo-
ple coming to Indonesia and Pekanbaru,
there are other languages that have been
brought here. These include Minangka-
bau, Malay, Hokkien, Javanese, Medan,
Sunda, Banjar, Bugis, and Manado. Some
people can speak English, but it is not
widely spoken here. To say hello how are
you in Bahasa you say Hai, Apa kabar?

RELIGION MOSQUE
In Indonesia there are many religions.
These include Islamic, Christianity (Catho-
lic), Buddhist, Muslim and a small percent-
age of Confucianism. Islamic is the main
religion followed by Christianity, Buddhism
and a small percentage of Hinduism and
Confucianism. The Religions here are re-
ally cool because every religion has differ-
ent ways. They all have different praying
times so none of the times that they pray
are the same. Some of the temples that
you can find here are amazingly colour-
ful and beautiful. From the mosques you
can often hear the loud shouts of the man
saying the prayers. Listening to them say
the prayers is nice because you are expe-
riencing something that you will remem-
ber for a long time. I have gotten mem-
ories from temples to mosques to even
seeing people from the different religions.

HOUSES OF PEKANBARU
You will see many types of houses around
Camp Rumbai and Pekanbaru. The pur-
pose of a house is to keep you safe from
weather, people, natural disasters and
animals. The most common natural di-
sasters in Indonesia are flooding, earth-
quakes and twisters. Houses need to
protect from the heat and lots of rain.
Animals often in the area include mon-
keys, snakes, scorpions and mosquitoes.
Some factors that impacts how houses are
built in Pekanbaru include resources and
materials, economics, weather, material,
resources,, design/ structure and animals.
Lets talk about the houses in Pekanbaru.
SOME OF THE RESOURCES USED TO
BUILD HOUSES IN PEKANBARU
The most used resources in Pekanbaru
used to build houses are tin, cloth, wood
and concrete. They use these materials be-
cause either that is what people can afford
or what is available for them. The hous-
es on camp are built mostly out of con-
crete, brick and tin because the camp has
enough money to get all the materials.
The more money there is, the more ma-
terials you have, and the more materials
you have, the stronger your house will be.
Some families around Pekanbaru have
enough money to afford concrete and ce-
ment houses. Concrete and cement are also
very useful for building houses because they
are strong materials. But you have to use
them correctly because if you build some-
thing like an extremely thin or weak base,
then the whole structure could fall down.
Thats why when youre building even with
strong materials, you have to be careful of
what you do when you are building houses.

In Pekanbaru you will see examples of
well built and not so well build houses.
People also use wood because it is easy to
find and it does not cost as much money.
You can make very strong houses with wood,
around here there is bamboo. People can
also use palm leaves because they actually
work well as roofs and can be found easily.
People also use palms because they can
repel water. All the rain in Indonesia keeps
the leaves moisturized so it wont shrink
and make cracks for the water to leak in.
HOW TO DESIGN A HOUSE IN
PEKANBARU
Design and structure are factors that im-
pact types of houses around the world be-
cause of the money and resources avail-
able. Roofs design is important because of
all the rain. The most often used design in
Pekanbaru are triangles roofs to help the
rain pour off. Also they usually use types of
palm leaves for the roof which can overlap
so there are less gaps for the rain to get in
from. Another resource in Pekanbaru is tin
which they usually lay on in big pieces for
walls and roofs. There are also usually a lot
of windows in the houses here to let in the
sun light but keep the house from getting
too cold. In Pekanbaru it rains alot so it also
floods alot so most houses out of camp are
on stilts but in camp we have huge drains
that hold the water.The amount of money
can depend on the design and how big it is.

Money is a very important fac-
tor in life. Most people out of
Rumbai Camp dont have as much
money so they only have small hous-
es made out of tin and wood.

People out of camp build their houses on
stilts to protect from flooding but some
people cant afford the stilts because they
dont have enough money. In camp hous-
es are not made on stilts because they
have drains so they dont need stilts also
they have drains to drain up the water also
chevron owns camp and chevron has a lot
of money so they can afford great, useful
resources. Windows have a lot of frames to
help keep up the windows and the walls.
The more money you have the more re-
sources you have so that is why money is
so important. Money is very important for
roofs because roofs can cost a lot of mon-
ey. So that is why money is so valuable.

away. The houses in Pekanbaru are strong
to not let animals in because the whole House on stilts
house has protection by the walls, and
roofs. Often animals that try to get in and
might get in are snakes, monkeys, mos-
quitoes and scorpions this is the jungle.
But there are ways to keep them out of
your house. First lets talk about HOW they
get in your house. Snakes can go through
drains and pipes also in toilets. Keep the
toilet seat cover down! Mosquitoes can get
in by open doors or windows but you can
get stop that by having a screen. To keep
monkeys away close the doors and win-
dows at all times. If a snake comes through
the toilet maybe to call pest control. If a
scorpion comes in one way well.
KILL IT!! Anyways to keep millipedes and
centipedes away if they are poisonous call
pest control if not pick them up and throw
them outside. You can tell if there poison-
ous by seeing if they have bright colors.

Bunga Rafflesia

Rafflesia Arnoldii or Stinking Corpse Lily

It is noted for producing the largest in-
dividual flower on earth. It has a very
strong and horrible odor of decay-
ing flesh. It is endemic to the rainfor-
ests of Sumatra and possibly Borneo.

Bunga Melati

Jasminum sambac or Jasmine

It is a small white flower with a sweet fra-
grance. It is the national flower of Indone-
sia, It was chosen on World Environment
Day on 5 June 1990 by President Soeharto.

Kantung Semar

Nephenthes or Pitcher Plant

It is a genus of carnivorous plants in the
monotypic family Nepenthaceae. You can
find these plants in Sumatra and Bor-
neo rainforests. The pitcher starts as a
small bud and gradually expands to form
a globe- or tube-shaped trap. The trap
contains a fluid of the plants own pro-
duction, which may be watery or syr-
upy, and is used to drown the insects.

Coelogyne Pandurata or Black Orchid

It is found in Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and
the Philippines as a large sized, hot growing
epiphyte found on large trees near rivers.

Amorphophallus Titanium or Titan Arum

It is a flowering plant with the larg-
est unbranched inflorescence in the
world. It grows in the wild in the equa-
torial rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia.

Bunga Kamboja

Plumeria or Frangipani
In Indonesia, Plumeria is often asso-
ciated with ghosts and graveyards.
Plumerias often are planted on ceme-
tery grounds. They are also common
ornamental plants in houses, parks,
parking lots, etc. Balinese Hindus use
the flowers in their temple offerings.

The weather station at ISR helped us track TEMPERATURE GRAPH

and record the weather. The temperature
is usually around 30 degree Celsius. In the
morning it is a bit cooler maybe 27 de-
grees and hotter in the afternoon getting
up to 31 degrees because we get more
direct sunlight. If you want to exercise
while you are here you should probably go
either in the morning or at dusk because
those times the temperatures are low-
er than in the middle of the day. Be sure

There used to be rainy season and a dry
season but it seems to be changing. The
rainy season is from October to April. When
it rains in Pekanbaru it can flood because
the rains are heavy and it can rain for a
long period of time. It rains a lot of time at
night and there can be storms. The storms
are loud and have even knocked over trees,
be careful if there is a big storm and dont
go near any big trees. Make sure you travel
with a raincoat, umbrella and gumboots. IF
you are out driving when there is a storm
the traffic goes slowly and becomes crazy.
While you are here try to watch a storm
because it is so interesting watching the
rain splash off the ground. Jumping on
the trampoline is also a lot of fun in the
rain if there isnt lightning and thunder.

RAINY DAY
SMOKE
Smoke isnt exactly weather but it is some-
thing you should know about from Pe-
kanbaru and be prepared for. Smoke in
the area can be caused by burning trees
to either make room for palm oil planta-
tions or burning garbage. The burning
creates fumes and smoke in the air which
can damage your lungs. They measure the
amount of smoke to tell if there is smoke
or how bad it is. There are 3 flag colors
green, yellow and red. Green flags means
it is a day with no smoke. You can play
outside and dont need worry. Yellow
flag means there is a little bit of smoke,
you should be a little worried but not too
much. You can go outside but not too
much, try to avoid it. If you do go outside
wear a mask. In your house you should
turn on your air purifiers, seal the win-
dows and try to leave the door closed so
smoke doesnt get in. Red flag you should
stay inside, wear a heavy duty mask if you
do need to go out, keep air purifiers on
high, keep the doors closed and windows
sealed. Remember when there is smoke
you need to think about your pets too!

CLOTHING

CLOTHING YOU SHOULD BRING HERE

Indonesia is hot, humid and rainy. So
if you decide to move or come to visit,
the climate will impact what you need to
bring. It would be a good idea to bring
some short sleeve shirts that are a light-
weight material and light colors, along
with some shorts, pants or skirts. Light-
weight materials are good because they ar-
ent as hot, they still protect you from the
sun and if they get wet they dry quicker.

There are some accessories you should

bring to protect you from the rain and sun
if youre coming to Pekanbaru for a visit. A
sun hat and sunglasses to give you shade
and better sight. Another thing to be pre-
pared for is the heavy rains. For the rain
you should have an umbrella, rain jacket or
a rain poncho. Rain ponchos are best if you
are riding your bike or scooter in the rain.

You should always wear shoes that cov-

er your feet when you are out because
we have poisonous and non-poisonous
snakes, scorpions and spiders. If you are
in the jungle make sure you wear run-
ning shoes or boots to protect your feet.

When going out in Pekanbaru or any Indo-

nesian town it is respectful to wear long
pants or shorts that cover your knees and
to have your shoulders covered, no tank
tops. You should be ready to remove your
shoes when entering a persons house.

MONEY
The money is Indonesia is called Rupiah. The Rupiah is subdivided into Sen, but nowa-
days Sen no longer exists and all money, coins and notes are Rupiahs. There is a 20, 50,
100, 200 and 500 sen coin, and there are the 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and
100,000 Rupiah bills (paper money). The money is very different from a lot of places in
the world, when I found out that there was 1,000 Rupiah I thought we were rich but then
we did some research and found out that 1,000 rupiah is only 8 in American money.

In America a Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon is USD $ 120 (approximately 1,600,000
Rupiah) in Indonesia it would cost you 2,120,000 Rupiah (approximately USD $160).

sarong. A sarong is a length of fabric,
in the shape of a tube, which is usually
worn around the waist. In public, the sa-

In addition, they may drape a long stretch
of cloth, called selendang, over one of
their shoulders. This cloth can be used as
a head shawl, or on informal occasions,

jects. At home the women wear a das-
ter, which is a loose dress mostly made
from Batik, or a basic t-shirt and long
pants or shorts. Similar to the men, the
women do not wear shoes inside a house.

Batik
Batik is an indonesian fabric that people use to make
clothing, quilts, and tablecloths and much more.

Materials needed to make Batik

4. Kerosene Stove= Kompor Batik (Kompor Minyak
Tanah)

How Batik is made

1. First you need to get a design that you want, then
you have to copy it onto the white piece of fabric
2. T h e n you need to melt the wax
3. Once the wax has melted to a very watery consisten-
cy you take the Batik pen and trace on the design
4. Next you use dye and either paint or soak
the cloth in the different colors you want.
5. Then once it dries you remove the wax
and have a very pretty piece of batik art.

Why people love Batik.

People should love Batik because it is a unique thing

that people make and it takes a lot of work and concen-
tration. You have to buy it here in indonesia because you
can not buy Batik anywhere else in the world. If you do
find Batik somewhere else in the world then it was prob-
ably imported to that place or it is not the proper Batik.

Angklung

One Indonesian instrument is the Angklung.The An-

gklung is originally from West Java, west Java is located
west of Jakarta.The Angklung is made out of mostly
bamboo but to tie the bamboo together you use rattan.
To play it you put one hand at the bottom on the side
and one hand on the top put both hands. The hands
have to be in different directions. The sound of the
Angklung might remind you of wooden windchimes.
The bigger the angklung is the louder it is and the lower
the pitch. When you play the angklung you will usually
play in a large group, each Angklung is a different note.
When you play all together it makes a melody or song.

Ramayana is a Hindu story that was
originally from India but is also told
in Indonesia. The story of Ramaya-
na comes from the Hindu culture and
changes depending on the differ-
ent place the story is being told in.
It is a very important story in the Hin-
du culture and Hindu is one of the
very important religions in Indone-
sia that the government recognize,
especially in Bali. Bali is the cen-
ter of the Hindu culture in Indonesia.

RAMAYANA - SUMMARY
In the beginning King Janak has a com-
petition to see who will marry the prin-
cesses Sita. Rama wins and marries Sita
but his stepmother wants her son Bhara-
ta to rule so she sends Sita Ramas and
Lakshman to the forest for 14 years.Then
Sita sees a golden deer and tells Rama to
get it, then Ravana pretends Rama is in
trouble and Lakshman goes to help him
and then Ravanna capturs Sita then Hu-
man shows up and finds Sita then tells
them where Sita is. Then they go and
rescue Sita. Read the story to find out if
they rescue Sita and return to the place.

WAYANG KULIT
Wayang Kulit are puppets made out of
leather and called Wayang Kulit or in
english shadow puppets. They are im-
portant because they are traditional and
unique to the Indonesian culture. Wayang
Kulit are made out of leather usually
from bull but can also be from goat or
cow leather. They are used in traditional
puppet show performances in Indonesia.

WAYANG GOLEK
Wayang Golek are 3D puppets that are
from Indonesia and mainly made out
of wood. They are important to Indo-
nesia because they are unique to the
country. They are made from mainly
wood they also have clothes that peo-
ple have sewn on them and have paint-
ed faces painted. They are mainly used
in Indonesia to tell traditional stories.

It is always fascinating and comforting that when there are

so many differences in the world between people and cul-
tures, music and games played unite people in their similarities.

We (Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade) decided to explore and

play games that local Indonesian children do. To our surprise we re-
alized that many of the games we play in our countries are very simi-
lar if not the same as games played here in Indonesia. How can coun-
tries that are thousands of kilometers/miles apart, share the same games?

We played many games but chose 3 games we really had fun with.

ENGKLE/DAMPAK/TELKEK CIPLAK GUNUNG

(HOPSCOTCH)

This game is often played in Java, Bali and Su-

matra. With this game you jump on one leg
or two legs into squares or shapes you have
drawn on the ground. Before you jump you
throw an object (gaco). Where the object(ga-
co) lands you cannot jump on that space. You
have to start at the beginning of the drawing
and hop all the way to the end. In PE Hop-
scotch increases coordination, and power.

LAYANG - LAYANG
(KITE FLYING)

Kite flying is very popular with Indonesian chil-

dren during their play time. We liked the kites
we flew as they were made from recycled plas-
tic bags. They were also easy to fix when the
string broke. Mr. V was happy that we flew
kites because we all got over 3000 steps in PE.

SEMUT, ORANG, GAJAH

With this game we get to practice Bahasa vocabulary and fine mo-
tor control (Mr. V says that is important for piano lessons too).

This game is the same as Rock, Paper, Scissors. We practiced it while playing Popcorn Tag.

Semut is an ant, Orang is a person, Gajah is an elephant.

Orang beats Semut as he/she squishes it with his/her foot

Gajah beats Orang as he/she squashes him/her with his/her feet
Semut beats Gajah as he/she crawls into his/her ear and sings, driving the Gajah Gila
(crazy).
Unless the Semut has a nice singing voice, then he/she would have to drive the Gajah
crazy by ticking him/her

The KFC in Rumbai is very close to camp
and has very good chicken drumsticks. If
you want a treat for lunch take a ten min-
ute drive into camp and get some KFC.
Want some KFC for lunch so i ask my
driver and 20 minutes later I got nice hot
chicken. Thats why I rated it 4 monkeys.

camp. When I went it was like a dream land.

You should not go to CFC because it
is so spicy and not much people go
there so probably dont go there. The
only main food there is chicken. I dont
know anybody that would go there.

sells drumsticks and it does not sell spicy (I
dont like spicy). The chicken is really good.

there are rare langurs and non-rare short
tailed monkeys. The baby langurs are white

If you go on a jungle hike you will
find a river. If you look down at the
ground from a cliff you will find the riv-
er. The river is long, warm and fat.

Movie Theatre- 4 monkeys
Dont miss out on the movie theater. It
has a lot of movies playing all the time.
The theatre is large and roomy with soft
cushioned seats. The popcorn and other
foods are very good, and they have lots of
drinks. The movie screen is super big and
you can hear the sound very clearly. It is
a very good place to visit! I have watched
a lot of movies there and it is very cool.

Our school is called ISR. the school is fun
because you can make all kind of friends.
ISR is in Riau at the Rumbai Chevron Camp.
There are lots of different classes and the
playground has lots of things to play on.

Go to the pool! I rate it 5 Monkeys because
I love the way the water cools me down and
also because I just love to swim. There is
also a slide and diving board I love the slide
the time I was on the slide I was on the
slide I was afraid to go down but now I am
not that is why I rate the pool 5 Monkeys.
RCC- 4 monkeys
At the RCC there are meetings, races, parties
and after school activities. You can swim too!

I think the RCC is rate 3 monkeys. There

I like the RCC because it is a big pool and
has food. You can jump off the diving board
and a slide that is really fun to go off of. It
is really deep and there is two pools. There

some of the types of balls like the 7 balls
and also it takes a long time for the balls to
come back but other that that it is really fun!

We do things that require 100 in it. It is overall
pretty fun. It was fun to use 100 for the whole day.

I like the turkey trot because you get to run and test
your skills. I dont like it because you sweat like cra-
zy but even if you are a parent, you get to run too!

Community time because its cool to learn what oth-
er classes are learning and also its exciting to show
something that your class made its also nervising.
Open house- 4 monkeys
Why? Because I get to show mom and
dad what I am learning. We give this
4 monkeys because it is super fun.

Bananas are the best because they taste like
vanilla ice cream! Its yellow and its a fruit.
You can find bananas almost everywhere.

Usually the bananas in Pekanbaru are not
shipped, they are from Pekanbaru. Most of
the time they can be fresh, but sometimes
they can be brown and slimy. The banan-
as in Pekanbaru are all different sizes.
Mangoes - 5 star
Mangoes look good because they are yel-
low and it tastes nice and sweet. I like to
eat them in little cubes on their own, or
sometimes with apples. I give mangoes 5
monkeys because they are my favorite fruit.
Rambutan - 5 star
I give 5 monkeys to rambutan because it
is really good and juicy and it has a lot of
flavor. I totally recommend rambutan and
it you like lychees then you will definitely
like rambutan. I hope you try it. I love it.
