молитимемося за 13 випускників катедральної
школи св.о. Миколая, що отримують свої
випускні свідоцтва, щасливо завершивши освіту
в нашій школі. Цього року промову від
випускників виголошуватиме, Адріана Кліщ,
маріяна Огаренко і Марта Сенлунь привітальну.
Адріана Чичула долучиться із особливим
привітом. Ці учні є справжнім зразком того, як
важка праця і посвята провадять до пошани і
відзнаки.
Для всіх випускників ми висловлюємо
особливу повагу і найкращі побажання світлого і
вдалого майбутнього. Бажаємо усім випускникам
завжди мати віру в себе і в те, що поставлені цілі
зможете досягнути.

Наші привітання скеровуємо і до пані Дарії

присвятилася вчителюванню і приготуванню

Today at the 10:00 am Divine Liturgy, 13
students of St. Nicholas Cathedral School will
receive their diplomas for successfully completing
their elementary education at our Cathedral school.
To this year’s Valedictorians, Adriana Klisch,
Mariana Oharenko and Martha Sendun and
Salutatorian, Adriana Chychula, we extend special
congratulations; you are truly examples of how hard
work and dedication can lead to honors of
distinction.
To all the graduates we extend our sincerest best
wishes for a bright, successful future. May you
always have confidence in yourself and know that
you are capable of achieving whatever goal you set
for yourself. We ask Our Lord Jesus Christ to watch
over you, guide and keep you in his constant care.
Our gratitude goes to Daria M. Hankewych,
Eighth Grade teacher. Ms. Hankewych dedicated
herself to teaching and preparing these students for
the next step in their lives, high school. As a result of
her perpetual devotion to excellence in education,
her students have been accepted into some of the best
high schools which include De LaSalle Institute,
Gordon Tech High School, Northside College
Prep, St. Ignatius College Prep, Trinity High
School, Rauner College Prep, UIC College Prep
and Vernon Hills High School.
We would also like to express a sincere thank you
to all the teachers for their roles in the education of
these graduates and to Mrs. Maria Klysh-Finiak,
Principal of St. Nicholas Cathedral School. May God

50th Anniversary Celebration of St Nicholas
Eparchy Begins Today in Detroit
During the 50th Jubilee observations throughout St
Nicholas Eparchy from June 4, this year in Detroit
through concluding ceremonies, December 6, next year,
in Chicago, a constant item will be present--to emphasize
the unity of the people in dependence upon the Protection
of the Mother of God. This special icon written for the
50th Jubilee of the Eparchy of St Nicholas by the hand of
Fr Damian Higgins, a priest of the eparchy, has
significance for all who view it with eyes of faith.
Following directives of His Grace, Bishop RICHARD
(Seminack), the design for the icon was chosen from the
prototypes of the Protection of the Mother of God. In this
icon her particular Protection over the Cathedral Church--
depicted at the bottom of the icon--is apparent.
Bishop RICHARD will bless the icon at today’s
ceremonies in the eastern-most part of the eparchy,
Detroit. From there the icon will be on a pilgrimage
across the width and depth of the eparchy before being
returned to the Midwest to be enshrined in Chicago for St
Nicholas Day ceremonies next year.
Participants of the various eparchy-wide celebrations will
have the opportunity to venerate the icon and to be
presented a copy for personal use.
As a basis for appreciating it, it might be well to know
that wood of the icon is tiger oak. It is from a one
hundred-fifty-year-old board that was once part of a piece
of furniture in Augusta, Georgia. The wood was prepared
for sacred use by being soaked in skin glues and wrapped
with an old altar linen received from the Sisters of St
Basil the Great in Fox Chase Manor, Pennsylvania. The
linen surface was then gessoed (covered with a mixture of
crushed marble and glues from animal hides) to be ready
for the elaborate process.
The technique used to create the icon employs egg
tempera (a base of egg yolks and natural pigments taken
from the earth). Further, the icon was leafed with 23K
gold and the crown of the Theotokos (Mother of God)
includes donated gems of diamonds, opals, pearls,
crystals and garnets.
The Theotokos has her arms outstretched with a veil and
is being crowned by two golden angels.
The icon is presented in a case protected by a wooden
cover with a cross created and donated by Zenon G
Korytko, a native of Ukraine working in Tucson, Arizona.
The towel was created and donated by a premier
craftswoman from the Ukrainian Catholic parish of St.
Stephen in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Truly the presence of this icon is to be an inspiration for
all who venerate it to utter the ageless words of praise and
supplication taken from the services of our prayer-life:
"Most Holy Mother of God, Save Us!"

Сьогодні в Дітройті
Ювілейні святкування Єпархії св. о. Миколая з нагоди
її 50-річчя почнуться вже 4 червня 2010 р., у Дітройті,
Мич., а завершуться в Чикаго, 6 грудня 2011 р.
Їхньою провідною думкою буде єдність Божого люду
у почитанні Покрова Пречистої Діви Марії:
зображеного на ювілейній іконі, яку з цієї нагоди
написав священик нашої Єпархії, о. Дам'ян Гіґґінс.
Вона матиме особливе значення для усіх, хто буде
глядіти на неї очима віри.
Згідно з вказівками Преосвященного Владики
Ришарда С. Семенюка, зображення ікони є базоване
на праобразі Покрова Божої Матері, що символізує
материнську опіку Богородиці над катедральним
храмом, який представлений вдолині.
Владика Ришард поблагословив вищезгадану ікону
під час урочистості відкриття, яке відбулося в
найдальше на схід висуненій території Єпархії, звідки
ікона почне паломництво по всіх парафіях і місцях та
повернеться до Чикаго на святкування "Дня св.
Миколая".
Учасники тих широкомасштабних торжеств матимуть
нагоду вклонитися в пошані цій ювілейній іконі й
отримають на пам'ятку її копію.
Щоб павильно оцінити ікону, пояснюємо, що вона
виконана на дошці з тигрового дерева дерева
стоп'ятидесятлітньої давности, яке було частиною
обладнання меблі в м. Августа, ш. Джорджія. Воно
було приготоване для освяченої цілі, намочене у
спеціяльній хімічний мікстурі, загорнене в старе
полотно, яке колись покривало престіл і його
подарували для тієї цілі Сестри Василіянки з Фокс
Чейс, ш. Пенсильванія. Полотно було посипане
спеціяльним гіпсом (Мішанини розкришеного
мармуру і клею зі звірячої шкіри). Тоді щойно воно
було готове для іконописання приписаною технікою.
На сам кінець ікона була покрита листками 23
каратового золота. Корона прикрашена різними,
подарованими самоцвітами.
На іконі Богородиця, представлена з піднесеними
вгору раменами, в руках тримає рушник-вуаль, а два
золоті янголи коронують голову.
Ікону зберігається у спеціальній рамці, покритій
деревяним віком, на якому видніє хрест, що його
подарував п. Зенон Коритко, народжений в Україні, а
проживає у ш. Арізона. Рушник-вуаль вишила відома
майстриня, парафіянка української католицької
церкви св. Стефана, у м. Калгарі, Альберта, Канада.
Присутнісь цієї ікони буде натхненням для всіх, хто з
побожністю вимовляє слова молитви:
«Пресвятая Богородице - спаси нас!»

Сповідь: Скористати з Тайни Сповіді можна кожної неділі в часі
Служби Божої.
Хрещення: Слід усталити дату з священиком не менш як за
місяць до запланованого дня хрестин. Батьки і хресні мають
виконати необхідне приготування, про яке довідаються в
священика.
Шлюб: Наречені мають вписатися в книгу на вінчання
заздалегідь, але не менш як за 6 місяців до церемонії. За шість
місяців наречені мають відбути підготовчі бесіди із священиком.
Принаймні один з наречених, або їх батьки мають бути
зареєстрованими практикуючими парафіянами катедри, щоби
вінчання могло відбутися саме в катедрі св. Миколая.
Перебування в лікарні: Якщо Ви, або хтось з Вашої родини, з
будь яких причин, є на лікуванні в лікарні й бажає щоб священик
його відвідав, просимо повідомити про це парафіяльну
канцелярію. Федеральний уряд законом про втримання таємниці
(privacy law) , не дозволяє лікарній адміністрації давати знати
парафії. Це є відповідальністю паціента або його родини.
"Нова Зоря" є єпархіальним місячником, що подає відомості про
всі єпархіальні новини, а також новини з України. Ви можете
сплатити річну передплату, що складає 20 доларів, у парафіяльній
канцелярії.

New Parishioner Registration: We welcome all new parishioners and
are thankful God has sent you to St. Nicholas Cathedral. Please
register by obtaining a registration form from the parish office or
emailing your request to:

Confessions are heard on Sundays during each Liturgy or by
appointment.
Baptisms should be arranged through a priest at least one month prior
to the date of baptism. Parents and sponsors must attend instruction
prior to the baptism of their child.
Marriage: Couples planning to marry are requested to make their
arrangements early, but no less than six (6) months in advance of the
proposed date. Pre-marital conferences must be arranged six (6)
months prior to the ceremony. At least one of the couple, or their
parents should be registered participating members of St. Nicholas
Cathedral for eligibility to be married in the cathedral.
Sick & Homebound: If you or a family member are confined to home
and are unable to attend Liturgy either temporarily or on a continuing
basis, and wish to receive communion, please notify the parish office.
Hospital Stay: If you or a family member are admitted to a hospital for
any reason and wish to have a priest come to visit, please notify the
parish office. Recent federal privacy laws do not allow hospitals to
notify the parish if you are admitted. It is the responsibility of the
patient or family to notify the parish office.
The New Star is our monthly eparchial newspaper and has information
from all our parishes as well as from Ukraine. The subscription cost is
only $20.00 per year and should be paid in the parish office.
