Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with
activity. The ACLS class adds to the foundation of the basic life support (BLS) and further
advances knowledge. The class was video based, interactive, and ended with an assessment. The
class incorporates stroke information as well. The ACLS class used algorithms for treating
cardiac arrest, bradycardia, tachycardia, and post cardiac arrest. In this class I learned how to
differentiate the different cardiac rhythms, how to treat them, the differences in medications, and
how the team works together and how the team collaborates together during a code.
Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?
The activities in the ACLS class gave algorithms on how to treat the following
circumstances cardiac arrest, bradycardia, tachycardia, and post cardiac arrest. We saw videos,
completed interactive scenarios, and completed an assessment on the algorithms. There was
required pre test for the ACLS class that took about 2 hours to complete. The pre test was
difficult to complete even when using the provided resources. The pre test assessed your ability
to identify cardiac rythms, pharmacology, and clinical judgment. The ACLS class was held at
Eclipse CPR Training off of Speedway Blvd. The class was held on a Monday April 17th. The
class was from 9am-3pm with few breaks throughout the day.
preceptorship and participating in a code I was could not wait to take the class. In nursing school
you can only learn so much about codes. In the BLS class you learn about CPR and the basics,
which is very important. However, in order to work in an ICU setting codes go beyond this
training. When I saw my first code, I felt extremely lost and overwhelmed, but I was also excited
to be there to help. This class had so much value to me. I want to be an ICU nurse where ACLS
certification in crucial. This class will give me more confidence in the clinical field and I feel
Would you recommend this specific community/professional experience in the future; why
This class was truly amazing. I was nervous at first to go to a class that was from 9-3pm.
However, I absolutely loved every minute of it. The instructor, Mark, was a great teacher. He was
very interactive and entertaining and I learned so much. I think this class is so important to take
for any student but especially important for students wanting to work in the ICU or ED. I have
always been interested in ACLS; However, I would recommend this professional activity to any
