SINGAPORE

Singapore does not have a national costume but its three main ethnic groups (Chinese, Malay and Indian)
each have their own traditional styles of dress that are used on certain occasions. The
elegant cheongsam or qipao as it is known in Mandarin will often be worn by Chinese women in
Singapore on their wedding day or during Chinese New Year celebrations.

For three weeks in June every year, the Singapore Arts Festival - which aspires to be an international arts
event with a distinctly Asian identity - brings together great local and overseas works and artists who seek
to inspire, challenge, surprise and entertain.

The fun kicks off with traditional village performances, where tribal and folk music, as well as dance
from all over the world are complemented by the glorious colours and tastes of ethnic crafts and
cuisine. With a programme of some 80 performances by over 30 foreign and local groups, the Festival
sets standards by introducing world and Asian premieres to the Singapore arts scene.
JAPAN

The kimono is the traditional dress of Japan, and it is worn nowadays on formal occasions. It is sometimes
accused of being an impractical form of dress, but it has the advantage of giving the wearer a graceful and
elegant deportment.

Japanese wedding customs fall into two categories: traditional Shinto ceremonies, and modern Western-
style weddings. In either case, the couple must first be legally married by filing for marriage at their local
government office, and the official documentation must be produced in order for the ceremony to be held.
Traditionally, marriages were categorized into two types according to the method of finding a partner
miai, meaning arranged or resulting from an arranged introduction, and ren'ai, in which the principals met
and decided to marry on their ownalthough the distinction has grown less meaningful over postwar
decades as the proportion of miai matches has dwindled.[1]
CHINA

Cheongsam is a body-hugging one-piece Chinese dress for women, also known in Mandarin Chinese
as qipao.

Dance in China is a highly varied art form, consisting of many modern and traditional dance genres. The
dances cover a wide range, from folk dances to performances in opera and ballet, and may be used in
public celebrations, rituals and ceremonies. The best known Chinese dances today are the Dragon
dance and the Lion Dance.
KOREAN

Hanbok is a traditional clothing of Korea. This is a list of Korean clothing including the national
costume, hanbok as well as headgear, footwear, and accessories.

The origins of Korean fan dancing are a combination of politics and religion. Thecourt of the Cho-Sen
dynasty was the basis for the intricate costuming and very precise movements. However, the movements
themselves evoke natural phenomena, from the color and fringes of the peony-colored fans, to the many
formations that recall blooming trees, flowers, and natural waves. The two have combined to create
Buchaechum, which is the correct name for the dance. Originating on the peninsula, it has become one of
the great ambassadorial art forms for Koreans around the world because the movement and color are
stunning and captivating no matter what culture you are from.
KUWAIT

The headdress of the Kuwaiti male consists of three parts. First a gahfiya, or a close fitting knit white cap,
is worn. It prevents the main cloth, or gutra, from slipping. The gutra is a square piece of cloth that is
folded into a triangle and placed so that the ends hang down equally over the shoulders. White is usually
worn in summer, and a heavier red and white in winter. It is held in a place by an ogal, a double circlet of
twisted black cord. One or both ends of the gutra can also be placed backwards over the egal.

Kuwait's seafaring tradition is known for songs such as "Fidjeri".[16] "Fidjeri" is a musical repertoire
performed traditionally by male pearl divers. It involves singing, clapping, drums and dances with earthen
water jars. "Liwa" and "Fann at-Tanbura" are types of music performed mainly by Kuwaitis of East
African origin. "Al Arda Al Bahariya" is a well-known Kuwaiti sailor song, as are the "al-Nahma", a class
of songs that accompanied many sailing activities.
