Classroom Procedures:

Beginning of Class:
Students come in and pull out all necessary materials for class that day. I start the class
with a video, or fun fact opener. Bell-work is a question based on the opener to get them started
for whatever activity we will be doing in class that day. From that, I start with notes or whatever
instructions they need for the day. As the activity or notes end, there would be a group reflection
where students guide it by asking questions they have to the class. I will be there to answer or
correct responses. Class ends with a quick vocabulary or review game or activity. Class will go
until the last minute of class. Packing up will be done during this last minute, but not prior to.

General Policies:
1. Attendance: During the first five minutes of class, attendance will be taken.
Students who were previously absent will go to the front and grab missing
assignments from the Absence baskets I have placed on the front demo table.
2. Tardiness: The first two tardies in a month is your free pass. Each additional
tardy result in a lunch date.
3. Out of Room Policies: Students are not allowed to leave the classroom during
tests, quizzes, or notes. Students may not ask to go to another teachers classroom
without a valid reason and a note from the teacher. To use the restroom, students
must sign out and take a pass upon teacher approval.
1. Materials: At the beginning of the semester, students will have an assigned
material list. They are asked to always have their Biology Binders and a pencil in
class. During notes, students are not permitted to sharpen the pencil. They will
have time before and after notes to take care of this. Upon lab days, required
materials will be signed out to individual students. On lab days other than
dissections, a student ID will be taken until materials are returned. On dissection
days, a cell phone will be taken. This is to ensure no scalpels or other lab kit
materials leave the room.
4. Student Areas: Students are not permitted behind the teachers desk. They are
also not permitted to grab anything off of the teachers desk. I respect their space
and personal belongings, I expect them to do the same. The whole classroom is
community space, so treat it with respect. It is as much the students classroom as
it is mine. Lets keep it neat and organized.
5. Student Work: Students will be asked to turn in work as an individual. Group
projects are a common occurrence in class, but each individual student is
responsible for completing their assigned tasks.
a. Cheating: Cheating is not acceptable. If a student is caught cheating, it is
an automatic ZERO on the assignment. Additionally, a parent teacher
conference will be scheduled and an appropriate course of action will be
determined upon the type of assignment that was cheated on.
b. Group Work: All students must participate in group activities. Groups
will be assigned by the teacher. Roles within the group may be delegated,
but the teacher must approve the types of roles.
c. Participation / Attention: Students are asked to actively participate and
listen. If a student is off task, it will start with a verbal reprimand. If the
distractions persist, a student may be subject to seat reassignment.
d. Finishing the Assignment: After assignments are finished, students are
asked to turn in whatever is necessary. They are allowed to talk amongst
their peers, but are not allowed to reach an excessive volume. (Tests are
the exception, no talking during tests.) Additionally, after assignments,
students are welcome to work on other assignments from other classes.
6. Talking: Talking while the teacher is talking is prohibited. During
announcements, tests, notes, and guest speaker lectures talking will result in a
verbal reprimand. If the reprimand is not enough, on the third reprimand, students
will come in for a lunch date.
7. Obtaining help: During assignments, projects, and reviews I will be wandering
the classroom. Simply raise your hand if you need help. If you would like to come
in for tutoring, please see me before or after class to schedule an appropriate time
(after school or during lunch).
8. Out of Seat: Students are not allowed out of their seats during notes. This is a
distraction to others. Students are allowed out of seat to gather materials if
necessary at the beginning of class. At the end of class, students are allowed out
of their seats to return said materials. Students staying in their seats is to keep
them safe. During labs, it is important for them to be focused on their labs for
their safety.
9. Fire / Disaster Drills: During drills, students will remain calm and follow the
teachers lead. Students will already be given a breakdown of what to expect prior
to the drills.
10. Safety: On the first day of class, students will be shown how to use the safety
shower and eye flush equipment. Prior to every lab, there will be a review on
when and why to use safety equipment.

Parents can reach me via email or school phone. All assignment information and due dates will
