Calcutta-Cholera and Plague.

Acting Assistant Surgeon Allan reports, June 30:


Week ended June 11. At Calcutta there were 31 deaths from chol-
era and 27 from plague; in all Bengal, 34 cases of plague with 34
deaths; in all India, 4,984 cases of plague with 3,953 deaths.

Smallpox in Naples.-During the week ended July 10, 5 cases of


smallpox with 1 death were reported at the health office of the city
of Naples.
JAPAN.

YOKOHAMA-Inspeetion of Vessels.

Surgeon Irwin reports, July 5:


Week ended July 2. Bills of health issued as follows:
Steamships Tacoma Maru for Tacoma, Asia for San Francisco,
Keemun for Manila, Indradeo for New York, and French cruiser
Montcalmfor Honolulu. They carried an aggregate of 1,066 in crews
and 89 cabin and 235 steerage passengers.
JAVA.

BATAVIA-Status or Cholera.

Consul Rairden reports, June 13 and 20:


There was an increase of cholera in this district during the week
ended June 11, and on June 18 Batavia was officially declared
infected with cholera. Cholera has appeared in the eastern part of
Java, with about 5 cases daily among natives.
