ENGLISH-IN-CAMP (EIC)

PENAMPANG DISTRICT 2013.

ABSTRACT :

English in Camp is the gathering of targeted students who are confined to

a designated place to participate in the activities planned. While doing
so, students are instructed, encouraged and motivated to use the English
language in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The objectives of the
program include inculcating the love of the English language in the
participants. Furthermore the program is engineered to stimulate the
students' interest in the English language as it promotes learning outside
the classroom context. Through participation in the camp, students' self-
concept, self-confidence and self-esteem are enhanced.

RATIONALE :

English-In-Camp (EIC) is aimed at promoting the use of English as a

communicative tool in authentic situations. Students will enjoy themselves
in a non-threatening and nurturing environment when using the language.
EIC provides an environment where learning a language and experiencing
cultural interchange will enrich the lives of the students. The focus of
doing things outside the language classroom will help the student to relax
and not be intimidated by others who are fluent in the English language.
Support from friends and the activities planned will help students to enjoy
what they are doing, and thus break the barrier that some students have
when they are reluctant to use the English language.

AIM :

EIC provides an avenue for participants to immerse themselves in an

English-speaking environment via healthy, educational and enjoyable
activities.

OBJECTIVES :

The objectives of EIC to enable participants to:

1. Communicate effectively and confidently in the English language.

2. Use the language in a conducive environment.
3. Develop positive attitudes and values.
4. Develop leadership qualities.
5. Realize self-worth.
 6. Think critically and creatively in English.

TARGET GROUP :

Level 2 primary pupils from the 24 schools of Penampang District . The

students should possess an intermediate level of English Language
proficiency. Participation includes:

1. 1 boy and 1 girl per school (must be multi-racial to promote

integration)
2. 2 teachers-in-charge per school. (English teachers)

SUGGESTED DATE AND VENUE

Date : 24th August until 25th August 2013 (Friday to Saturday)

Venue : S.K Sugud, Penampang

Duration : 2 days and 1 night

FEE

RM50 per pupil x 2 pupils = RM100 for each school.

FOOD & BEVERAGES

Provided for breakfast, tea break, lunch, tea break, dinner and supper
(See Appendix 2)
