My Music Genre Study

 A genre is a category or style.
There are different styles of music.
We will be studying these genres of music:

CLASSICAL
BLUES
JAZZ
ROCK
COUNTRY
HIP HOP/POP/RAP
GOSPEL
STAGE & SCREEN
 INSTRUMENTS
An instrument is a tool that is used for a specific purpose.
In music, an instrument is a tool that makes sound.
Different tones, pitches (high or low), and timing (slow or
fast) help make the music that we can hear everyday.

The majority of musical instruments fall into one of five

categories:

 Violins, violas, cellos, and double basses are four-stringed instruments, and are
played mainly by using a bow. The harp is also part of the Strings family, but is
played by plucking (pizzicato) and not by the use of a bow.

strumming them all together to make a chord (pairings of notes). All the strings

 Flutes, oboes, clarinets, and bassoons are part of the Woodwind family.
WOODWINDS

These are long tube-like instruments that have a mouthpiece, and keys that let air
and sound out as you blow into them. The saxophone, although brass, is part of
the Woodwinds.

buzzing the lips together while blowing into the mouthpiece..

 A percussion instrument is one that is sounded by being struck, scraped, shaken,
or rubbed by hand. When we think of the Percussion family, we normally think of
PERCUSSION

drums or xylophones, but a piano is also part of the family because little hammers
strike strings on the inside of the piano.

 The Keyboard family all have keyboards present, although there are many ways
that sound is produced. Some stringed instruments are plucked, or hammered,
while others use wind, like accordions and pipe organs.
