Philosophy of Nursing Statement

My passion for the nursing profession developed five years ago when I visited my

mothers birthplace in Ha Noi, Vietnam. At the local health clinics, I witnessed the communitys

widespread poverty and inaccessibility to quality health care. I was captivated by the impact of

the health care professionals upon the patients and their families, which sparked my desire to

pursue a career in the nursing field. I intend to practice in an intensive care unit and continue my

work in third-world countries and provide medical services to underprivileged communities. I

understand that the nursing profession entails demanding work hours and stressful conditions,

but I am committed to experiencing the daily challenges and learning from them because I am

sure I want to pursue the invaluable joy of this rewarding career. I value discovery and a

commitment to patient and family-centered care. Qualities such as compassion, diversity, and

innovation among all health care professionals attract me to the nursing profession. I am eager

to mirror these same values in every area of nursing that I pursue.

I personally believe that nursing is more than just career to earn a living. Being a nurse

means providing safe, patient-centered care regardless ones race, disability, or spiritual and

cultural values. Nursing is having the responsibility to serve others as human beings without

judgment. A nurse should be a patient advocate and respect the patients autonomy and decisions

for care. This means representing the patient in accordance with his or her choices and acting as

a liaison among the patient, the patients family, and other healthcare professionals. Nurses

uphold the values of integrity, honesty, and accountability. They maintain patient confidentiality

and continuously strive to improve the health of patients through education and encouragement.

As nurses, we should collaborate each other to provide a healthy and positive work environment.

It is important to stay updated with evidence-based research in order to provide care that is safe
and efficient. I also believe that nursing requires being able to know when you need assistance.

This applies to completing new tasks or even recovering after a patient death. Its important for

nurses to create a culture where everyone feels supported and excited in the work that they do.

My philosophy about nursing applies to my work because it is a core part of my values. My

strong beliefs about this profession and what it stands for will ensure that I am always providing

safe, quality, patient-centered care. The nursing profession will expose me to an array of

insightful challenges and a range of people and perspectives, which will encourage my personal

growth and allow me to become a young, independent woman. I will learn skills that can be

applied towards other aspects of my life. In return, I will positively contribute to the nursing

community through my enthusiastic attitude, social and leadership skills, and experience within

unique dynamics of a hospital setting.
