Cave Dwellers Unit (Day 4)

Common Core Standard:

CC.1.2.2.E Use various text features and search tools to locate key
facts or information in a text efficiently.
Objective: Students will identify where they found information using page
numbers and how to identify homographs.
Materials:

Cave Dwellers By Katherine Follett


Dry Erase Marker
Whiteboard
Motivation:
Introduce the Book
o Discuss front/back cover
o What do you see?
o Review Vocabulary
Instruction:

Read page 13 to students from where we left off our reading


Discuss what was read to students
Introduce prepositions
o Make a chart of different prepositions.
Re-read the page and highlight the various prepositions as we read

Guided Practice:

Highlight all forms of prepositions in the story


Discuss how they operate to make the story descriptive and flow
smoothly.
Individual Practice:
Have students read the next two pages and write down prepositions
they find.
Assessment:
I will project sentences on the board that will either have propositions
missing or not missing
Students will use their whiteboard to tell me if the sentence is correct
or incorrect. If incorrect, I will have students tell me what type of
preposition with choices should be placed in the sentence to make it
true.
Modifications:

One student will be wearing an FM system


I will be wearing a lapel microphone
Repeating directions for student who have troubling processing
information
Chunking tasks into smaller parts.
Check for understanding of directions.

Frequent feedback and praise
Extra time to complete classwork for a few group of students.
