MANAGERIAL FUNCTION STUDY OF GNFC

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited. (GNFC), is


a joint sector enterprise promoted by the Government of Gujarat
and the Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd.(GSFC).

It was set up in Bharuch, Gujarat in 1976. Located at Bharuch in


an extremely prosperous industrial belt, GNFC draws on the
resources of the natural wealth of the land as well as the
industrially rich reserves of the area.

GNFC started its manufacturing and marketing operations by


setting up in 1982, one of the world's largest single-stream
ammonia-urea fertilizer complexes.

Over the next few years, GNFC successfully commissioned different


projects - in fields as diverse as chemicals, fertilizers and electronics.

Since inception, GNFC has worked towards an extensive growth as


a corporation. A growth which respects the environment and
springs from the progressive vision of GNFC.

GNFC today has extended its profile much beyond fertilizers


through a process of horizontal integration.

Chemicals/Petrochemicals, Energy Sector,


Electronics/Telecommunications and Information Technology form
ambitious and challenging additions to its corporate portfolio.

GNFC has an enterprising, strategic view towards expansion and


diversification.

VISION STATEMENT

company manufacturing fertilizers, commodity and speciality chemicals
maintaining highest standards of operational excellence and innovation for
creating sustainable value for all stakeholders.

MANAGEMENT FUNCTION

Management function is identified as a set of function performed by


managers to accomplish organizational goals .Function means activity and
management Function means activities performed by managers.

staffing , CO for coordinating ,R for reporting and B for budgeting .

The first and primary function of management .According


to Koontz, Planning is deciding in advance -

o How to do

Managers plan business activities at all levels .planning is selecting


information and making assumptions regarding the future to formulate
activities necessary to achieve organisational objectives .

PLANNING IN GNFC

Different types of planning

2 types of planning done in GNFC are

(i) long term planning

(ii)Short term planning

Short term planning is done for 3 month

1st month fix plan

2nd month tentative plan

3rd month informative plan

Short term planning is done for opportunity business.

IMPORTANCE / OBJECTIVES OF PLANNING WHICH

ORGANISING

Organisation refers to institution . It is the process of identifying and


grouping the work to be performed , defining and delegating the
responsibility and authority for purpose of enabling people to work most
effectively together in accomplishing objectives.

Some of the objectives are :

1. It is on going process .

2. Adaptive to change.

3. Goal oriented .

4. Grouping of activities.

ORGANISING CHART

STAFFING

Staffing Function is related to the concept of HUMAN RESOURCE


MANAGEMENT .

Staffing deals with appointing people and placing them at the appropriate
jobs .

It is the set of activities which aims at inviting , selecting , placing and


retaining individuals at various jobs to achieves the organizational goals.

Staffing is the processing of obtaining and maintaining capable and


competent people to fill all positions from top management to operative
level.

Need of staffing in GNFC:

1 To achieve organizational goals by recognizing most valuable


resources.

2 To increase loyalty and commitment of workers toward individual and


organizational goal.

3. To increase skills of people on the job by providing training facility .

4. To maintain an environment of teamwork and innovations.

5. To make optimum use of human resource to achive organizational


goals .

DIRECTING
It is the sum total of managerial efforts that is applied for guiding and
inspiring the working teams to make better accomplishment in the
organization.

OBJECTIVE OF DIRECTING

o Create sound environment for work.

o Communication .

o Unity of command.

o unity of direction.

o Contribution.

o Follow up.

ELEMENTS OF DIRECTING

SUPERVISION:-implies overseeing the work of subordinates by


their superiors. It is the act of watching & directing work &
workers

LEADERSHIP:-may be defined as a process by which manager


guides and influences the work of subordinates in desired
direction.Communications-is the process of passing information,
experience, opinion etc from one person to another. It is a bridge
of understanding

MOTIVATION:-means inspiring, stimulating or encouraging the


sub-ordinates with zeal to work. Positive, negative, monetary,non-
monetary incentives may be used forthis purpose.

COMMUNICATION:-the whole process of sharing information and


ideas from one person to other

COORDINATING:

Co-Ordinating, that is the all important duty of interrelating the


various parts of the work; OR that means is a common thread that
run through all the activities of the organisation.

REPORTING:

Reporting, that is keeping those to whom the executive is responsible informed as


to what is going on, which thus includes keeping himself and his subordinates
informed through records, research, and inspection
CONTROLLING:
According to Theo Hayman , Controlling is the process of
checking whether or not proper progress is being made towards
the objective and goals and acting if necessary, to correct and
deviation.

It implies measurement of accomplishment against the standards


and correction of deviations if any to ensure achievement of
organisational goals.

The purpose of controlling is to ensure that everything occurs in


conformities with standards.

An efficient system of control helps to predict deviations before


they actually occur.
