SS5H4 Explain Americas involvement in World War II.
b. Describe major events in the war in both Europe and the Pacific; include Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, D-Day, VE and VJ Days,
and the Holocaust.

Brief Description of Learning Experience: In this unit students will be learning about WWII, Americas Involvement in
the war, and major events that took place during the war. As we near the end of the unit, I will introduce the project of
them creating a three to five minute movie over a specific person or event during WWII. The students are free to pick
their own topic, however, there can be no repeats so the choices are on a first come first serve basis. I will provide a
variety of choices for students to pick from if their first choice has been claimed or if they cannot come up with anything.
Time will be provided during class for the students to go to the computer lab to work on their projects. I will act as a
monitor and will only interfere if the students have questions or if the students are off topic. Once everyone has finished
their videos we will present them to the class for everyone to see. Afterwards, I will create a specific Show Off page on
the classroom blog where I will upload the students work for parents and other classrooms in the school to see.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: The LoTi level for this project would be around a 4 or 5 because the
students are actually being involved in the use of technology, they are creating their own product, and they will be
publishing it for others to see.

Importance of technology: This project could be done without technology/ the use of MovieMaker however, without it,
you lose the engagements and excitement that comes with being able to create your own movie. Allowing the students to
create their own movie over a subject in the unit also increases their LoTi levels to a 4 or 5 with the ability to create their
own product and having the independence/freedom to include whatever they think would go best in their movie so, by
not including this, you are holding your students back at a lower LoTi level.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: When using the internet with students, you must be mindful about what they are doing
and what sites they are using. It is best to make sure that whatever sites you use dont ask for students personal information,
collaboration/chatting with others can be monitored, and they have secure login pages. Since making movies also deals with
incorporating images, the students must be knowledgeable about copyright and know which images are okay to use.
