Executive Summary

The following summarizes our teams, The Roommates, decisions-making process and the
proposed solution to the problem What would we as a group anticipate could be the most
effective methods and strategies to have messy housemates to comply?

Using the Deweys Reflective Thinking Sequence in our online and face-face meetings, we
brainstormed the characteristics of the problem, and who would be effected by the solution of the
problem based on past personal experiences. Our group was also mindful of the effect on the
stakeholders who were the roommates themselves and the property owner.

The goal of the criteria was to encourage all roommates to comply and to not ignore or possibly
acquire anybody elses noncompliance behavior. So, we created a Chore Chart which was
determined the best possible solution. There were other solutions that we rated by their high-
marks, the other solutions would fix the problem but not solve the problem in the long run.

We decided that the solution to our problem would be the Chore Chart, which gave each
roommate a certain area of the house to clean each week. We also considered giving a monthly
prize to the person who the roommates think cleaned the best that month to encourage the
roommates to keep cleaning. The least effective solution we had was to not do anything and
continue to clean up after the other roommates, it was immediately discounted because it
wouldnt provide the desired results.

Self Reflection

I really liked this class and I am going to use everything Ive learned to help with presentations
in different college classes I take and to also help me in my work environment with when it
comes to talking with people or presenting a pitch to my work staff and boss. With the different
coping mechanism and ideas used in the teaching of how to become a better communicator I will
use this so that I to can be a more powerful speaker and an engaged speaker into any of the topics
I get involved with.
