Required Materials

Web sites
Storyboards (sample)
Computer with word processing software
Interviewing worksheets
Rubric
PowerPoint presentation
IPad

Anticipatory set:

their choice. https://youtu.be/gaN-ZNjKjlQ

Step by Step Procedure

Select students to participate.

View sample projects. Students must research interviews- they cannot simply repeat a

preexisting YouTube video.

Discuss possible Chefs. Is the topic manageable based on the skills needed and the time

frame required?
Select the Famous Chef
Define the purpose and objective of the video.
Pick the target audience.
Define the video elements required (interviews, props, etc.).
Determine the location for the video (classroom, kitchen, theatre)
Describe what the viewer will see (storyboard location, description, framing, sounds,

dialogue).
Outline: Students should start by outlining what they have to say, what they intend to

show, and their main points.

Script: The students who are going to perform in their video, use a voice-over, or simply

write captions, they should know what they are going to say before they begin.
Storyboard: Students often have higher expectations than they can actually deliver.

Having them present a storyboard before filming, makes them plan each step of the

process and encourages them to gather resources in advance

Accurately describe what the final video will look like (interview)
Select the video style. Examples include the following:

a. Documentary style: Camera normally frames the subject with a centered bust shot (waist

up or higher), and the chef usually looks directly at the camera. Use cutaways to video

segments or still images to illustrate the points made by the chef.

b. Situation style: Viewers are made to feel that they are bystanders in one corner of the

room, watching the action. Subjects in the video should be facing each other, not the camera.

Research the topic for facts, video clips and other needed material.

Conduct interviews as needed.

Write any scripts or dialogue needed for commentary.
Determine what computer skills are needed for editing the video.
Evaluate the planning process.

Plan for independent practice: Students that are independently working will create a Prezi or a

PowerPoint on either Julia Child, Augustus Escoffier or Marie-Antoine Careme.

See attached instructions

Closure: The students will have learned about establishing their roles, setting expectations,

applying the standards and an understanding of the culinary industry. Students now understand

how to work as a team. And students now understand using digital media on a project

Assessment Based on Objectives: See rubric

Students will work in assigned groups of three.

All students will collaborate on project.

For presentation, Chef will review material; questions and answers

Students will write script and cite resources.
