Writing Prompt 1

When I think back on my earliest and most vivid memories of how I learned to read and

write as a kid many things come to mind. My mom stayed at home all throughout my childhood

so she always helped me in my learning. I remember her reading me books and then helping

guide me as I attempted to read them by myself. As far as I can recall, I did not have too much

difficulty picking up reading or writing. I always liked to write stories while developing my

writing skills, giving me lots of practice.

One reading tool stands out that helped me form my literacy narrative and that was

Hooked on Phonics. My mom helped me work through it which was very helpful. There were

all different types of games you could play as well as different difficulty levels. That program

potentially had the largest effect on how fast I learned as a child. My brother and sister also used

Hooked on Phonics. Having all of us use the program helped me learn it quicker and I enjoyed it

more as well.

Theres also a few books I vividly remember reading as a kid. I loved to read The Very

Hungry Caterpillar because of all the color and food in the pictures. Another book I read was

Green Eggs and Ham, which I liked because of the rhyming. After my reading started to develop

I enjoyed reading the book series Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and the book Bridge to Terabithia.

After reading these books I began to be able to make emotional connections with what I was

reading. Once I started to do this I enjoyed reading even more. Then over the next few years I

developed my reading comprehension and began to analyze the readings, leading me to where I

am today.
