Unit Objective

The Fluency Lesson Plan is part of the kindergarten reading foundational skills unit. For this
lesson plan students will demonstrate their comprehension of emergent-reader texts with purpose
and understanding, which is part of the TN reading standards 4.0.

Lesson Objective

Content Learning Goals and Objectives

1. Students will be shown a visual and audio video of the book The Snowy Day and asked to listen
and pay close attention.
2. Students will be asked to talk with their neighbor sitting next to them and converse about their
favorite and most memorable parts of the book that they remember from the video.
3. Students will each be given assigned to a computer open to the website Prezi and then will create
a Prezi that contains five memorable parts of the book they remember from the movie.

Student Participation

The goal of this lesson is for students to demonstrate a clear understanding of the book and then
learn to take that understanding and information to create a Prezi to complete an outline full of
five of the main parts of the book they can recall from comprehension.

Background and Rationale

Students will demonstrate a clear understanding and comprehension

of the book The Snowy Day
Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600
This lesson is a continuation of TN reading standard 4.0.
I will build on this lesson for future lesson plans by using different
books and eventually build up to books with more difficult comprehension
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did
not master the objectives of comprehension and reading skills and for those
ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course
and are not part of this particular lesson.

Procedures and Timeline

Introduction

Begin by informing students to pay close attention and keep in mind they will need to
choose five parts of the book they find most memorable.
Display the video of the The Snowy Day onto the white board using the projector for all
students to see and hear.
Provide some brief background information about its purpose, authors, and when it was
written.
Give students 10 to 15 minutes to converse and talk with one another about the book.
Follow this with a brief discussion pointing out that not all students will agree on the
main parts they remember and everyones will be different.
However, for the next two days, the students will be using pictures and images to make
the Preamble easier to understand.
Remind students will be given help and guidance all through out completing the lesson
plan.
