Title of Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity: KidPub
URL of Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity: www.KidPub.com
Describe how you would use the Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing
Opportunity in your classroom:
Students will write an opinion piece on what class pet they think the class should get. They will
have to write a letter to the teacher persuading him/her on why that class pet is the best.
Students will need to research the facts they want to include in their paper. They can use a
graphic organizer to plan their writing. Their paper will state the topic, their opinion, and include
supportive details. They will have to organize their paper with an introductory paragraph,
closing paragraph, and body paragraphs. They may have to revise, edit, and write several drafts
before arriving at their final copy. When they are happy with the final copy, they will type it on
the computer. Lastly, they will publish it on KidPub for an outside audience to read. They can
comment on other KidPub users work from around the world. Hopefully others will comment on
their work too.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a
classroom?
Computer, Microsoft Word Software
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience:
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often
beyond their school: Students will post their work on KidPub in hopes that others
from around the world will read it, comment on it, and provide feedback. As well,
the students will read others work and make comments.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original data and or
producing original products as a result of engaging in the project): Students will be
able to choose a pet to persuade the teacher to get. Students will need to research
facts to include in their paper.
c. Higher-order thinking: Students will be presenting their own opinion and
justifying it with reasons. This falls on the evaluate tier of Blooms Taxonomy.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their
product: Students will publish their writing on KidPub for a worldwide audience.

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning activity and Why?
This learning activity is a LoTi level 5 because students are producing an original product and
sharing it with an audience outside of the classroom. The learning activity allows the students to

How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still comply with your
districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies?
In order to comply with Internet safety and student privacy policies, I will inform administrators
and parents of what I am doing and how it benefits student learning. Students will get a
permission slip signed by their parents stating that their first name and work can be posted
online. Students will not be allowed to post their personal information online. This includes their
last name, address, phone number, grades, or photos of themselves. Students will not be allowed
to visit harmful, inappropriate websites. For this lesson, students will only be visiting KidPub.
