Bruce Mary and Bridgeland John "The Ethics of Mentoring." Business Ethics Quarterly

14.1 (2004): 95-122. Jan. 2014. Web.

http://www.mentoring.org/images/uploads/Report_TheMentoringEffect.pdf In this newsletter,

Bruce and Bridgeland explores the ways that mentoring elementary students that do not

have a support system at home helps them in the long run. The authors backs up their

information with facts showing that a child in the United States is 2x more likely to have

a parent in jail compared to a child born 20 years ago. The 3 main focuses are (1)

Mentoring Connection to Aspirations and Outcomes, (2) The Value of Mentors, and (3)

The Availability of Mentors. This newsletter is valuable to my topic because it shows

multiple sides and perspectives. What is useful about this source is that it has a lot of

data to show how mentoring kids is helpful. This source showed me that young children

not having someone to mentor them/ to push them to do better will not give them the

positive motivation that they need.

"Mentoring." Opportunity Nation. Leadership Council, 15 Apr. 2016. Web. 18 Nov. 2016.

https://opportunitynation.org/contact-us/ On this website Opportunity Nation is a

national campaign that believes youth disconnection, and youth unemployment are

huge problems that need to be fixed in todays world. The author states that 5,527,000

youths are either not in school nor working. Only 6% of the youth that are born in low-

income families have a chance to climb to the top of the income ladder. 5.5 million are

identified as disconnected youth. This information is helping me with my research

because if I start mentoring a child at a young age it might not decrease those numbers

dramatically but it will make a difference to that one child.

"Mentoring Impact." MENTOR. The National Mentoring Partnership, 2016. Web. 18

Nov.

2016. http://www.mentoring.org/why-mentoring/mentoring-impact/ . The National

Mentoring Partnership is a program that makes a impact by mentoring. The data on this

website shows that 1 of 3 young children will grow up without a mentor. Mentoring

shows young children that someone cares about them, and assures them that they are

not facing their problems alone. Their research shows that mentoring has a positive

impact on young children personally, academically, and in professional situations. This

source is useful towards my topic because it shows me activities that have already been

done and have had an impact on children positively. This source has videos that will

guide me to succeed with my topic and to overcome any obstacles I may come in

contact with.

shows data on children growing up in a single-parent household. This will be useful to

my capstone because the children that grow up in a single-parent household are the

ones that may need a little more attention and a mentor would be the perfect thing for

them to have. This website shows not only the number of children growing up in a

single parent household but also their race, location, and multiple years that this data

was taken. This will show me the type of children to focus on mentoring more, because

only growing up with one parent takes a toll on young children.

Jucovy, Linda. The ABCs of School-based Mentoring. Portland, OR: National Mentoring

Center, Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, 2000. Web.

http://educationnorthwest.org/sites/default/files/abcs.pdf. This online ebook provides

different strategies on youth mentoring in schools and communities. This source claims

that the youth needs a caring and consistent relationship with someone older to guide

them in the right direction. Consistent long-term relationships with someone older can

yield a range of benefits for the youths. This source is very useful for me to use because

it acts as a guide on how to correctly mentor the youth and tips on how to succeed with

that. It does not just show what to do but it also describes the things that can go wrong

and the way to fix the problems you run into thats why I believe this would be a great

source to use to help guide me while completing mytopic.
