Muriel Summers has been the principal of A.B. Combs since 1998.

She holds a BA degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, a master's in

Elementary Education from UNC-Charlotte, a master's in School

Administration from the University of Maryland and an honorary

doctorate from California University. One of the greatest professional

joys of her life is being the principal of A.B. Combs. Ms. Summers

has guided our school to create the first Leadership Elementary

School in the nation. Combs has received many national awards

under Ms. Summers leadership including, The National Blue Ribbon,

The National School of Character, The National Magnet School of

America, and the Lighthouse Recognition Award from FranklinCovey.

Ms. Summers has been recognized as Wake Countys Principal of

the Year, one of North Carolinas Women to Watch, and in 2014

received the coveted Friday Medal of Honor for her contributions to

education. She is the very proud mother of Banks Summers, a UNC-

W graduate in elementary education and lives in Savannah, Georgia

and Colin Summers, a recent graduate of Wake Forest University

who works in Raleigh for Prometheus Group.

Cortney Gordon Instructional Resource Teacher, she is also the

teacher that to arrange our daily work at A.B Combs, she is also a

great teacher I have never meet before, she love those students like

her own child, she love her job she full of the passion on her work

which remind me a lots.

Cortney Gordon has been an educator for more than 13 years. Prior

to her current role as Common Core Coach, Cortney worked as a

classroom teacher and Literacy Coach. Mrs. Gordon works alongside

teachers, modeling lessons and striving to develop a lifelong love of

learning in students. One of her favorite quotes is: Those who dont

read good books have no advantage over those who cant. Mark

Day one

The first day at A.B combs was fantastic. At morning we get up very

early cause I am so excited that I can have this chance to have

internship at American school which is great time for me to get

more experiences for becoming a teacher. Happily, A.B Combs are

not far from our apartment so, its only toke at least 10mins to

arrived at our destination. When we arrived the the principal of AB

Combs school was get a great welcoming hug, she also very excited

to meet us, she was very kind and we know about Ms. Muriel
Summers she is the one of the great principal in NC sate, we have

lots of things want to learn and to talk with this great lady.

What a mazing school, we are so excited to been there and meet

those sweet kids, they are so kind to show their respect to us which

made me feel so honored that kids have this kind of behaviors.

Since we are new of here at first we need to let our kids to know

each of us, where are so excited Ms. Gordon let us to join the

morning news radio station to give an introduction of ourselves

through the vidoe chip, since then every students looked as us as a

celebrity that was very interesting. Through their eyes contacts I

can feel they are very welcomed us.

The fist day was excited, we had one great campus toll by two

students, they give me amazing and detail information about this

school which makes us more easy to join in. One thing which drove

me attention was the leader of each classroom, when we wolking in

to the class the leading will come to hanch your hands and say hello

to you which was really nice thing that to gulilld students behavior.

Day Two

The second day at A.B Combs was also fantastic. We decide to start

at first grade, three of us we join to the fist grade at Ms.11 class, she

is really a great teacher and we have been so welcomed.

At the first class I have learned so much things that impressive me a

lots. For instance, the teacher gives the literacy class, at her fist
step she just give some background of the knowledge and then she

just separate kids to different corner for practice, some of them

were using computer to practice other were using books or study

tools etc.

The way to help students become deep understanding about the

specific knowledge.

Which really great teaching method for teach kids and also this is a

kind of class engaging really could help students become more

interested at study, cause this teaching method not like traditional

standard, in a other words is different with normal class teaching

method which like to pay more attention about the teaching slluybs

instead of thinking about what are the kids interest. As A.B Combs

teacher they care about kids interests they like to using some

games or other methods to teach which combine kids interest and

knowledge to help learn the knowledge while take into practice.

Innovation, I can see at this school teacher more like to teach

students how to learn instead of how to push kids to learn.

Day Three

As far as we have been come to A.B Combs for three weeks as one

future teacher I have learned many teaching silks at those three

times.

This is our third time at this school, time past so fast but we really

learn a lots. This day we stay at first grade at A.B Combs, and today

is also special day for students to have their leadership training

program at the indoor basketball courts. We also join this special

training time.

The first grade and kindergarten students was this first group to

come to join and then the second and third grade will come after the

fist grade finished. For the leadership teaching activity one thing

that are attract me more is the attitude of their students, they are

so happy and pay a great attention to their teachers, compare with

students from china American students has great behavior, causal,

they always emphasize respect people means respect yourselves.

So as a teacher, I need to considerate about what is the key role for

teaching our new generations, knowledge plays an important role

but if without great behavior it could be nothing at all.

Day Four

Since we already attend fist grade at AB Combs we get the deep

understanding of the teaching propose for our new generations.

As a teacher, the fist main propose of teaching is that we need to

help students to develop What a mazing school, we are so excited to

been there and meet those sweet kids, they are so kind to show
