Hill Tower/ Clover Control Reflection

The three questions that I wanted answered from the trip was

where Clover Control was located as well as what they actually did, and

the difference between a military controlled tower and civilian tower. I

always thought that Clover was located somewhere out in Wendover

because thats the only time that I have ever talked to them. So I was

surprised to find out that they were actually on the Air Force Base. Just

arriving at Clover Control answered my first question. After talking to

them I was able to learn what they actually do at Clover. I did not

realize that they were a military operation until the day of the field trip.

I will be honest though, I was a little bit to focused on the F-16s

dogfighting on their screens to pay much attention. Im Air Force ROTC

and am easily distracted by anything military related. But I did learn

that they control and monitor the MOAs and restricted airspace around

Wendover and that they are helpful to those who contact them while in

that air space. The final question was what is the difference between

towers controlled by a military compared to a civilian tower. Upon

arrival I knew that there was a big difference in that they kicked us out

of the tower as soon as we arrived. So obviously they are working with

more sensitive information than the civilian towers such as Ogden. Also

the structure was very different. While Ogden was very laid back and

had little to no rank structure, Hill tower was completely opposite. Hill
had a very clear rank structure and even though we got there when

they were getting lunch there still was a sense of professionalism and

alertness that set them apart from Ogden.
