Morning Meeting Plan Kelly Hernandez

1) GreetingChildren give greetings to each other.

Objective: The students will follow direction and recall students names in the
correct sequence.

Materials:

Playground Ball (or similar ball)

Activity: Ball roll

Each student will sit in a circle on the rug. The teacher will explain the rules
for the ball rolling greeting. The teacher will reiterate the rules and ask
whats important for us to remember before doing our greeting? Are we
going to run if the ball goes past us? What will we do? When we begin, we
will be greeting our friends this morning by saying Good morning___ and
then our friend will greet you back. You will then roll it to another friend and
continue to say good morning until each friend has been greeted. Together as
a class at the end we will all say Good morning friends!

Evaluation: The students participation will be noted through observational

notes.

Adaptation: If the students have a difficult time keeping track of who has
gone, the teach will pull the popsicle sticks as the students greet their
friends, and will reiterate who has not been called and allow students to
decide who to pick next. Picture cards of the students can also be used for
more visuals.

2) Sharingeach student will have an opportunity to share with each

other about their thoughts, interests, or news. The group will
respond to each other by articulating their thoughts, feelings, and
ideas in a positive way. It can range from one student sharing to
whole group sharing.

Objectives:

1) The students will use complete sentences when sharing their thoughts.
2) The students will compare and analyze how many other students liked
similar or different stories.

Materials: Favorite Fairy tales chart

Activity: Each student will tell the class their favorite fairy tale story and why
it is their favorite. Each student will make a brief statement and must use
appropriate sentence structure such as: My favorite fairy tale story is The
Little Mermaid because I live near the ocean. The student will then color in a
block on the fairy tales chart.

Evaluation: Using a checklist the teacher will mark each box related to the
students ability to use complete sentences and sharing ideas to the class.

Adaptation: For students who have a difficult time thinking of a fairy tale, I
will have a printed list of pictures of the different popular fairy tales they may
have read.

3) Group Activitythe whole group participates a short activity

together to develop cooperation through active participation.

Objective:

1) Students will Distinguish between information provided by pictures or

other illustrations and information provided by the words in a text.
2) Students will reflect on previous fairy tale movies seen, and act out the
script. The rest of the students must guess which fairy tale they are acting
out.

Materials: Fairy tale script cards

Activity: The teacher will introduce the activity by discussing drama and how
we act things out. The teacher will pick a student to act out an animal such
as a dragon. After the student acts out a dragon, the teacher will emphasize
on how they didnt use any words and only used their bodies to act it out.
The teacher will then explain that they are going to each receive a script of a
fairy tale, if they do not know it then they can raise their hand and ask a
friend for help. Each student will, without talking or signing, act out what
they think the fairy tale is. The first person to guess right gets a turn. After
all students have finished acting out the teacher will give a round of applause
for the whole class together for their great acting skills.

Evaluation: The teacher will mark a checklist as the class shows the ability to
find key words on the script card to identify the fairy tale story and correctly
act it out.

Adaptation: on each script card, there will be a picture hint for which fairy
tale story. This will make it more visual for the students who are struggling
readers.

4) News and Announcementsstudents develop language skills and

learn about the events in the day ahead by reading and discussing a
daily message posted for them, reviewing the agenda and calendar
and other activities.

Objectives:

1) The students will recognize letter patterns from left to right.

2) The students will find patterns and make comparisons.

Materials: Morning meeting poster, markers

Activity: The teacher will review the morning message on the poster. The
message will say

Dear students,

Fe Fi Foe Fum! There is lots of grouping to be done! What makes these Fairy
tales similar? What makes them different?

-Jack and the Beanstalk. - Waynetta and the Cornstalk

- Kate and the Beanstalk. - The Giant and the Beanstalk.

- Trust me, Jacks Beanstalk Stinks!

-Look Out Jack, The Giant Is Back!

Sincerely,
The Giant.

Evaluation: The teacher will evaluate the students ability to compare the
stories and will use a checklist when observing their responses.

Adaptation: For the morning message, the images of the story books can be
placed next to each story so it is more visual.
