Inournextunitwewillbediscoveringwhatitmeanstobeanadultandliveindependentlythrough
research,discussions,andinterviews.Withtheuseofavarietydigitaltoolsandtheimportanceofproperly
citingoursourceswewillbefocusingonthefollowingtwoelementsofDigitalcitizenship.

1)DigitalLiteracy
DefinedbyRibble(2011)astheprocessoflearningandteachingabouttechnologyandtheuseof
technology.

Throughoutthisunitwewillbeusingavarietyofdigitaltools,whichcanbebrokenintotwogroups:

Thedigitaltoolsourclassisfamiliarwith,aswehaveusedtheseitemstogetherinpreviousunits,wewill
brieflyreviewhowtousetheusethesetoolsbeforeweusethem.

Theunfamiliartools,asaclasswewilldiscussandlearnhowtouseeachofthembeforeusingthedigital
toolsfortheassignments.Youwillfindthatwhileusingsomeofthesetoolsyouwillhavespecific
questionsthatwerenotpreviouslydiscussedandwewillworkonansweringthemastheyarise.

2) Digital Rights & Responsibilities


DefinedbyRibble(2011)astherequirementsandfreedomsextendedtoeveryoneinadigitalworld.

Whenresearchinginformationandusingimagesfromwebsitesthatsomeoneelsecollectedandcreated
itisrequiredthatyougivethemcreditinyourwork.Thesamewouldapplyforsomeonewhoisusingor
referencingworkyoucreated.

Asthefinalprojectforthisunit,youwillbecreatingavisualandmakingashortvideopresentation.In
orderforyoutopresentittotheclass,theschool,andpossiblyonlineitisrequiredandethicalthatyou
citetheresourcesyouusedtocollecttheinformationpresentedinyourproject.

Followingthesedirectionswillensureyouareusingprovidingcredittotheotherresourcesandallowyou
tocreateaprojectthatcanlegallyandethicallybesharedwithothers.
