Gender-based Educational Inequalities

Girls are being denied the right to education, affecting the development of certain

countries. Gender-based educational inequality results in societal ideologies that influence social

thinking. Although this topic is recognized by many, not much is done to change attitudes or

governmental systems. According to the Malala Fund, a total of 32 million primary-aged girls are

out of school around the world and 98 million more girls are not moving on to secondary

education, meaning they rarely get the chance to continue their education after primary school. In

an article titled Child Marriage: A Critical Barrier to Girls Schooling and Gender Equality in

Eduation, by Jennifer McCleary-Sills and her colleagues, one of the main reasons why these

girls fail to continue their education is due to early child marriage. According to the article

Investing in Girls Education, by Shannon Murphy and her colleagues, the right to education

would improve the developing world, especially in the work force.
