Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence was once thought of as an object of the future. Many people believe

that they are a huge risk to incorporate into mainstream intelligence. Although many companies

are using automated services to provide a service to their customers, a great deal of the

companies are too afraid to use an automated service that automatically learns trends and habits.

Creators and engineers hope that artificial intelligence can be the answer to a lot of our

questions. Some hope that there might be a benevolent superintelligence might analyze the

human genetic code at great speed and unlock the secret to eternal youth. Even though the goal

behind the artificial intelligence might be kind-hearted with no malice intended, it could grow

into something more sinister. People believe that the intelligence of machines would exceed that

of humans- a moment that futurists call the singularity. There is fear from simple machines that

have the potential to grow into more than what they are.

In popular media displays, there is always a piece of artificial intelligence that grows too

intelligent for its own good. Usually, it always ends up in the downfall of the creator, or the

person using the piece of intelligence. The most recent displays include a smart house using an

artificial intelligence program. The house takes control and traps the family inside and takes

control of the appliances and features of the house to torment the family. This is one example of

why people second-guess using artificial intelligence to play a vital role in their lives. Another

thing people are afraid of are robots taking over the world and wiping out the entire human race.

Movies like Terminator and I Robot are adaptations that depict these outcomes. Robots wipe out

humans, or they force them into hiding. Afterwards, they declare war upon humanity and
announce the human race as extinct. Then they form their own civilization and take control of

the world. This exaggerated plot comes straight into the heads of many people just because of

how the artificial intelligence is displayed in theaters and at home. People knock the idea before

they learn about the realistic facts that come with artificial intelligence. In the article, there was

the example of a machine that would be called the paper-clip maximizer and it would be

programmed to make as many paper clips as possible. Their example of artificial intelligence

going insane was that it would try to create new and more efficient paper-clip machines out of

anything and everything with newfound intelligence. Until everything was converted into a

paper-clip, it would not stop. It is my belief that artificial intelligence straying off the path that it

was made for is very unlikely.

My opinion differs greatly from some others. I believe that artificial intelligence would

be a great thing for our society. All the things that no one knows how to do could be solved by a

program that is designed specifically to solve that certain problem. In time, there would be no

more time wasted to pondering and confusion.
