ELAGSE6W3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events
using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event
sequences.

ELAGSE6W6: Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing
as well as to interact and collaborate with others.
Brief Description of Learning Experience:
In this lesson students will create a blog post, rewriting the end of a classic childrens story Little Red
Riding Hood. Students will rewrite the ending the perspective of any character other than Little Red.
Students will need to take what the read and create an imagined experience as well as evidence from the
text to discuss how their character may be feeling, what they are thinking, and what will happen next. To
start off the blog, students will start with a quick synopsis of what has happened in the story so far. Then
students will rewrite the end to look different than the original. Students will be able to design the blog
however they would like during this activity. Being the teacher, I will take time out to read every students
blog and comment with constructive criticism to help them become better writers. I will also point out
things that I really liked that they did to give them some affirmation.
This lesson overall will only take approximately 55-95 minutes so it will be a full class period. I will
start the class by reading the story then telling the students after I have read them a story to choose a
character other than Little Red and rewrite the ending in whatever way they would like. Students will
already have had set-up their blog, so I will inform them that the rewrite activity will be posted on their
blog. After everyone has written their blog entries, I will give students 15 more minutes to read their
partners rewritten ending and comment with any constructive criticism they see applicable.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi):

This lesson has a Loti level four because students are engaged in an activity in which they use technology
to create a new story. Students are engaging in the highest level of Blooms Taxonomy by being asked to
create a unique product while also analyzing and evaluating a text. Students will also be using technology
to not only create their product but participate in peer review, providing responses for their classmates and
then finally sharing their final product with the class.
Importance of technology:
Although this project could be done using just paper and a pencil, technology allows for students to access,
edit and share so much easier than passing around a piece of paper. Paper can also get lost, whereas on a
public blog the only way the post will get lost is if the creator of the post completely deletes it. Using
technology allows students the creativity to design their blog in the way they want to. By having the project
done through an online blog, students will also be able to better understand digital literacy and digital
publishing.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
Some possible concerns that might come from students working with online blogs in the classroom could
be the issue of anyone online and in the public, is the students safety. It is important as the teacher to keep
all student information anonymous and private. I would personally make sure that students can only gain
access to other students blogs by getting a code that keeps the blog within our classroom. I would also
make sure that there is no identifying information on the students blog or blog posts. Finally, I would
require students and parents to sign a permission slip, giving the child consent to participate in online
blogging for our private classroom page. If the parent or student decides to opt out of the online blog, I will 1
have an alternate product for them to create.
