Senior Digital Exploration Judges

10800 Highway 707
Murrells Inlet, SC 29577

Dear Judges:
Good Evening, my name is Savannah. I live with my mom, dad, and two sisters named Sarah
Elizabeth and Mary Margaret. I have attended St. James for all three years of high school so far
and have genuinely enjoyed every year. Starting freshman year, I had the privilege of being on
the Varsity Girls Lacrosse team for the first year of the program and on top of that being a starter
on the team. My sophomore and junior year were the same way besides this year I experienced
going to Lower States with my team. Academically, my grades range from As to Bs normally.
When I graduate next year, I plan on attending the University of South Carolina and majoring in
Criminology to one day hopefully become a part of the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit).
Mental illnesses have always fascinated me ever since I was a little girl, as weird as that sounds.
My mom would always watch shows involving people suffering from mental illnesses of some
sort and I was always intrigued. Recently a movie came out called Split that introduced me to
the mental illness, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). After watching the movie, I researched
the illness and knew DID would be my Senior Project topic. While researching, I learned that
DID is when a person experiences two distinct personalities and only three percent of the
population experiences this disorder. DID treatment varies per patient and is difficult to treat.
Researching this illness will help me realize how blessed I am to have the health I have and to be
more open minded of what others may be going through.
At first, the Senior Exploration process was challenging. I was stumped on how I could do my
service hours but after that was figured out I was set. Writing the research paper and extended
research paper was difficult for me due to my extreme procrastination skills. The service hours
were very fun as I interviewed two psychiatric therapists who deal with multiple mental illness
patients. Both therapists being very sweet ladies who made me have a different outlook on
mental illnesses and how far we have come to treating them and being aware of them. My Senior
Project has affected me positively this school year by keeping me very involved in English and
refreshing my memory greatly on how to write research papers.
Thank you for giving your undivided attention and taking the time to read this. It was an honor
and privilege talking with you about some of my personal and life and getting to share my Senior
Project. Thank you again for your time to listen to my experience; I appreciate it very much.
Sincerely,

Savannah Elliott
