BALLOON FEST BLOCK PARTY- Friday June 2nd, Balloon Festival is starting off at 6pm on
Broad Street with the Opening Ceremonies will take place on Main and Broad Streets right in down-

ADIRONDACK VOICES TO PERFORM SPRING CONCERT- The Adirondack Voices will

hold their annual spring concert on Tuesday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m., at Christ Church United Method-
ist, 54 Bay Street. The theme for the 2017 spring concert is Humor Me, a program of choral music
showing how musical humor for group singing has been represented through various time periods
and genres. While we sometimes have included a humorous song on a program, a program of ALL
humorous selections is very different for us. We believe that we are creating a community forum for
people to gather and share the joy, love and laughter of vocal music. There are times in our lives
when we all feel pressure and stress, but music can provide us with relief, happiness, tears and even
laughter. Adirondack Voices wants to recognize our diversity and celebrate the connections we make
through music and the timing seems right to offer a little musical humor to our community. Selec-
tions will include songs like The Echo Song (Renaissance), Italian Salad (Opera spoof), Make
Em Laugh (musical theater), Finale from The Gondoliers (operetta) and The Art of the Ground
Round by PDQ Bach. The Adirondack Voices chorus is conducted by Ms. Penny Schiek. Ms. Carol
Ann Elze-Sussdorf will provide piano accompaniment and the concert includes guest instrumental-
ists for some pieces. Admission for the performance will be $10.00 per person. Tickets will be avail-
able at the door. This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a
regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew
Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the LARAC/Lower Adirondack

HAYNES HOUSE FUNDRAISER- The Haynes House pink flamingos have returned from their
winter vacation, and are ready to take up residence on local lawns. The pink plastic flock is a fundraiser
for the Haynes House of Hope, a comfort care home for the terminally ill in Granville, New York.
Community members who wish to support Haynes House can request a flocking of the birds on
their lawn or that of a friend. For $25, a half flock of 25 flamingos will show up; a $50 donation will
produce a full flock of approximately 50 perfectly pink birds. The flock will remain in residence for
24 hours. They come complete with a form in which the recipient can choose a future home or
business to be flocked. According to flamingo experts, these birds can travel up to a 25-mile radius
from Haynes House. The tongue-in-cheek landscape prank is all in good fun, but monies raised help
Haynes House continue its important work in the community. Since opening in 2009, Haynes House
of Hope has been a source of comfort and support to the terminally ill and their families. Residents
live in the quiet of an actual home that is staffed around the clock by volunteers. Medical care is
provided through High Peaks Hospice. There is never any charge to the resident for Haynes House
services. To arrange a flocking in support of the Haynes House of Hope, contact Executive Direc-

the bragging part. Im still bragging and my mara-
thon was Boston, 1960.
The Farmers Almanac says the weather will be cool,
dry, and sunny, typical of southern Vermont in May.

Looking for more? The Shires offers shady, scenic
roads; water stations every two miles; tables of re-
freshments at the finish; hot showers; and a

A runner in last years Shires ran the full 26.2
miles but only moved two feet. Is this possible?

CON BRIO CONCERT- Pianist Anna Keiserman returns to the
Bischoff House for a concert on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 7:30
p.m. Con Brio Performing Arts is happy to present Ms. Keiserman
once again. The program begins with The Etudes-tableaux, Opus
33 by Rachmaninoff. The Etudes- tableaux, are intended as picture
studies, evocations in music of visual stimuli, though
Rachmaninoff was never specific about what inspired each piece;
he preferred to leave such interpretations to listener and performer,
suggesting they should paint for themselves what it most
suggests. Rachmaninoff used these pieces to explore and exploit
a wide variety of themes, textures and sonorities. The Sonata in g
minor, Op.22 by Nikolai Mednter is one of the composers most
famous sonatas. This Sonata-concerto in one movement is
expressive, highly romantic and impetuous music, and is very
popular with audiences around the world. The concert will finish
with gems by the Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin, whose
wife Maya Plisetskaya was a famous Russian ballet dancer.
Shchedrins music is colorful, with snatches of folk music and
sparkles of humor. Admission is free. Donations to Con Brio are
gratefully accepted, so we can continue to bring outstanding
musicians such as Anna Keiserman to Cambridge. Reservations

2017 CROP HUNGER WALK: This month, parishioners in the
eight congregations of the Greenwich Interfaith Fellowship will
be registering to participate in the 2017 CROP Hunger Walk. They
will seek contributions from friends and business associates, who
will become their sponsors in the walk. One quarter of the funds
each walker raises will go to a food pantry of the walkers choice,
with the balance going to help end hunger worldwide. Info Rev.

KRISTA SULLIVAN WILL PRESENT ZUMBA at Womens
Health DayThe Salem Area Womans Club will present the 23rd
Annual Womens Health Day By Women For Women in con-
junction with Glens Falls Hospital and local sponsors on Satur-
day, April 29th at Salem Washington Academy. In addition to
the keynote speaker there will be six workshop choices. Krista
Sullivan will present the workshop Lets Move! Zumba with
Krista Sullivan! Participants will enjoy a sampling of easy to
follow routines that will prove energizing and enjoyable for ev-
eryone. All the moves can be modified for any fitness level or
ability with an exciting mix of music from Latin to Country.Krista
Sullivan has been working in the fitness industry since 2004.
Through her own successful weight loss journey she was encour-
aged to become a Certified Personal Trainer through AFAA. Krista
ran a group strength training program and taught aerobic classes
in south Glens Falls. Upon meeting her husband and moving to
Salem She furthered her fitness experience by becoming a licensed
Zumba instructor. She opened HIP fitness in 2009 and currently
runs classes our of the studio in her home. Over the years Krista
has acquired many certifications to teach a variety of formats.
She always returns to Zumba as a means to remain steady, as its
always fun and never feels like exercise to her.Health Day at-
tendees will enjoy a continental breakfast with registration be-
tween 8 and 9 AM. A baked goods table will be available all day.
After the keynote speech and workshops, lunch options will be

Benita Zahn, WNYT news anchor, returns to Fort Salem Theater
on Sunday afternoon, May 7, at 2 PM, in a cabaret entitled BZ
and the Girls: Women Who Sing. A part of the theaters inaugural
season eleven years ago, Ms. Zahn has returned at least once in
each subsequent season, sometimes with fellow Singing Anchors
Jerry Gretzinger and Jessica Layton, sometimes as the lead in a
musical (Im Getting My Act Together and Theyre Playing Our
Song), and often as a solo cabaret performer. As an actress, she
has performed with every major performance group in the Capital

Community Invited to Putnam Block Open House
The organizers of the Putnam Block redevelopment project are inviting the
community to an open house on Thursday, May 4 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at
Oldcastle Theatre. A presentation, including remarks from partners, will take place
at 5 pm.
The Putnam Block project is a community-led development to revitalize the Hotel
Putnam block on the four corners in the heart of Bennington, VT. A group of local
business leaders and institutions have organized as the Bennington Redevelopment
Group (BRG) to transform this historic block into a vibrant, mixed-use downtown
space with offices, in-town living, restaurants, and retail.
A lynchpin to reenergizing all of downtown, the project will work with the historic
downtown buildings and bring a mix of uses to a walkable neighborhood.
Prospective anchor tenants include a grocery store, restaurant, coffee shop/caf,
hardware store, Bennington College, Southern Vermont College, and medical
services from Southwestern Vermont Health Care. Early leases will provide the
necessary momentum for this ambitious project.
Attendees will experience the project vision with exhibits showing each building,
schematics, renderings, and floor plans. Aside from the short presentation about
the project at 5:00 pm., the event is intended to be a casual celebration for attendees
to see the visuals, meet the investors and anchor tenants, and to celebrate with
music, food from South Street Caf, and other people in the community.
This project provides a significant economic benefit to our community, said
Bennington County Regional Commission Assistant Director Bill Colvin. Just
as important is the tremendous boost revitalizing these iconic buildings will have
on our community morale. The Putnam Block redevelopment represents the very
best elements of a community coming together to support and improve itself. This
open house event offers the opportunity for BRG to share with the community
and interested parties information about project progress, timeline, funding, and
the like. We look forward to seeing you there!

NORTHCOUNTRYARTS WILL HOLD AN OPENING RECEPTION on Friday, May 12,
from 6 to 8 p.m. for its 'Youth Visions 2017' exhibit at the NorthCountryARTS Gallery at The
Shirt Factory. The gallery is located in the Shirt Factory, Suite 114, 71 Lawrence Street, in Glens
Falls, New York. The show runs from May 5 to June 2, 2017. The exhibit will display multi-
media works by regional high school students from Warren, Washington, Hamilton, and Essex

districts are welcome to submit entries. Youth Visions recognizes the artistic accomplishments
