Pastors Corner
Bob Rosenberger and I had fun last Sunday playing Satan (me, on the left) and Jesus (Bob,
on the right) in a fictitious dialogue. We pretended that the devil appeared to Jesus not only
at the beginning of his ministry as reported in the Gospels, but also after the Resurrection of
Jesus when Jesus went to be with his
disciples in Galilee. You can listen to the
dialogue on our website (spoiler alert:
Jesus wins the debate). This was for Holy
Humor Sunday, and I thank Bob for being
a good sport and doing a great impression of Jesus. Thanks
to all the others who participated in Holy Humor Sunday. I
believe every Sunday ought to have at least a little Holy
Humor, because Jesus taught us to be joyful followers.
John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, wrote a tract
called, The Character of a Methodist. In it, he wrote about
the joy which marks our character as disciples of Jesus
Christ, and why that is. Remember, his use of English is
more than 250 years old. "What then is the mark? Who is a Methodist, according to your own account?" I
answer: A Methodist is one who has "the love of God shed abroad in his heart by the Holy Ghost given unto
him;" one who "loves the Lord his God with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his mind, and with all
his strength. God is the joy of his heart, and the desire of his soul; which is constantly crying out, "Whom have
I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee! My God and my all! Thou art the
strength of my heart, and my portion for ever! He is therefore happy in God, yea, always happy, as having in
him "a well of water springing up into everlasting life," and overflowing his soul with peace and joy. "Perfect

love" having now "cast out fear," he "rejoices evermore." He "rejoices in
the Lord always," even "in God his Saviour;" and in the Father, "through
our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom he hath now received the atonement."
"Having" found "redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of his
sins," he cannot but rejoice. A Reflection on Love
There will be more opportunity for joy this coming Sunday, as the spring The steadfast love of God endures all
cantata is presented. It dovetails beautifully with our churchs Vision the day (Psalm 53:1)
statement. Our churchs vision is that we are to be a Christian The amazing thing about Gods love for
community where Christ is transforming lives, and the cantata looks at us is that it is not dependent on what
the lives of people in the Gospels and how they were before and after we do or what we do not do! Though
their transformation by Jesus. Come and witness stories of God loves us unconditionally, you or
transformation, in song and in drama at both services this Sunday! someone you know may not fully
accept this love. God does not want us
