Description of how to implement in the class: The teacher will activate background knowledge by
doing a K-W-L chart. This will allow the students to use metacognition, and the teacher see exactly
where the students are starting with knowledge. When the students are done with their chart, they
will pair with another student to talk about what they have written. After working with their partner,
they will have an opportunity to come up to the board to write their responses. The teacher will
introduce the life cycle of a plant, making sure to review the parts of a plant first.
The students will be assigned plants for 6 weeks that they will be responsible for watering, getting
sunlight to it, and making sure it lives. They will observe what is happening with the plant,
documenting everything. They will then compare their findings with the typical life cycle of a plant.
Some students plants will have died already, and some will still be living. They will then use Timeline
to create a visual outline of their plants progress.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): LoTi level 4 best describes this because it is student
centered. Each student will have their own plant to look after, making sure that each of them is
growing according to the outline.
Description of the sample BBPT file provided *: The pictures above show an example of the
students plants each day of the cycle.
