Philosophy of Education
I have spent many years of my life in school. I have seen and
experienced the impact that an educator can have on his or her
students. Educators can help to push their students to come to
school or make them not want to come at all. For me teaching is
enriching not only for my life, but for the lives of my students
also. Teaching for me is also not biased or one way. Teaching is
keeping an open mind and never judging my students and where
they come from. It will be important for me to remember that I
will have a diverse classroom and it is important to keep an open
mind and embrace it. I want to create an environment that will
foster the learning of my students. In an atmosphere where
learning is fostered students will push themselves harder to get
better grades and come to class. As a student learning to teach in
the ESL field It is important to be diverse with my teaching and
instructional methods. I must keep in mind all of the strategies
that I have learned in college for the future.
An ESL teacher is a teacher that keeps students knowledge
and skills of the English language in mind. These students will
come from other countries to America with no knowledge of the
English language. Students must be able to learn in a supportive
classroom that allows them to use their native languages to
support the English language ability. I will help to develop my
students pre-existing knowledge base and build upon it. Not only
is it important for me to teach my students the mechanics of
English, it is also very important for me to instruct my students in
the proper use of the language. Therefore, I devote time to
discussing the different linguistic genres and discourses that exist
in society and emphasize the importance of these notions in
academia.
It is also important for me to help my students feel confident
in the work that they do in my class and to support this
confidence. I will have a classroom where all of the students
support each other and they help each other. All of my students

will understand the differences that every student possesses and

the differences that they bring into the classroom. It is important
for me to support a multicultural classroom. This support will
enhance my students experiences and enable them to go far with
their English language learning.
