Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:

MGSEK.G.2 Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.

Brief Description of Learning Experience: The teacher will introduce the lesson by showing the
movie that I have attached above. The teacher should point out the different effects used in the movie
such as, video, transitions, music, captions, credits and so on. Then the teacher will review the
different shapes and their characteristics with the students as a group. The students will then find a
partner or form groups of three and discuss the different shapes. The students will identify everyday
objects that are these different shapes. The students will then make their own movies about the
different shapes that were covered during the lesson. The teacher will need to assist the students in
making their movies but they can be made very simply. The students will use the internet to research
each shape. The teacher will walk around to aid as needed. The students will be given 3 days to work
on their movies for about 30 minutes each day. The students will then share their movies with the
class and the class will discuss important details within each movie.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: This project would be considered a LoTi level 4
because the students are doing the assignment on their on with very little teacher assistance but the
teacher is available if needed. Students apply shape knowledge and compare to objects in the real
world to show their knowledge.

Importance of technology: Using multimedia tools is crucial to this project. The students will use the
internet to do research and then input the information they discover into a video. Without these
multimedia tools and technology, the students would not be able to complete this assignment as
planned. They would instead be drawing their own images and displaying those images on the board
or on posters for their peers to view.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: While completing this assignment, it is important for
students to practice internet safety. Students should avoid anything inappropriate during research.
Teachers should always monitor student activity on the internet. Students also need to be careful not
to use photos that are not intended to be used by others. Teachers should provide a list of appropriate
websites for the students to choose from to do their research.
Other comments about your proposed student multimedia authoring activity: This lesson can be
modified for younger age groups.
