On March 11th, I went to a music concert to watch Los Perdidos and

Pancho Barraza at The Fox theater in Salinas, CA. Prior to attending the

concert I was very excited because it would be the first time seeing Los

Perdidos play in concert and because I really enjoy their music, and I was not

as excited to see Pancho Barraza since Ive seen him a couple times before

but I too like his music. My expectation for this concert was really high and

expected it to be very fun, and it turned out to be just how I expected.

To begin, this particular music performance was categorized in the

Mexican regional music industry. Being that this concert and music type was

Banda its tempo was both quick and moderate. For example, when Los

Perdidos were performing the tonality of their music was very diverse since

pitches and sound came from the bass/guitar and tuba. Making the pace and

tempo of their music quick and slow depending on their rhythm and music

patterns. I did notice that each time their tempo would change from slow to

quick their body language and movements changed as well. On the other

hand, while listening to Pancho Barraza I noticed most of his music had a

slow tempo since most of his songs and music type are categorized as

romantic.

All the elements of music were present through the entire music

concert. Although at the beginning I would say I didnt really notice a pattern

in rhythm until the next performer was on stage. Like I previously stated Los

Perdidos had a very quick and moderate tempo and pace throughout every

song making their rhythm stay consistent and the same. There I noticed this

was because almost all their songs started with the same melody and

sounded quite the similar. On the other hand, when Pancho came on stage I

noticed how diverse and distinctive his rhythm was. Being that he did

perform mostly slow and romantic songs each song individually had their

own melody rhythmic pattern allowing me to distinguish the time of tone and

pattern being played.

Furthermore, comparing both performances I noticed that each singer

had different timbres both vocally and instrumentally. I noticed that while

pancho Barraza was performing his timber in voice was very distinctive from

other singer Ive heard before because he had a high but subtle tone which

allowed him to reach high and low pitches perfectly. While the lead singer of

Los perdidos had a very subtle timber with a low pitch and tone. At some

point of his singing you could hear him trying to reach high tones but his

voice naturally would faint away and would be back to the low tone. As for

the instruments both performances where of high and low timbres. For

example, during the first performance of los perdidos their main instrument

was the guitar which reached very high tones and low tones making it quite

distinctive from the tubas tone because its pitch was very high and the tubas

was deep. During the other performance there were a lot of distinctive

instruments but the one I could hear the most where the trumpets and

drums. The drums had a very subtle timber which set it apart from the

trumpets because they were deep and whereas the trumpets had a very low

timber with an alto pitch.

Overall, the concert was quite enjoyable, fun, and met my

expectations. The environment was very enthusiastic being that the

dynamics in each performance was loud which made it personally enjoyable.

In my personal opinion I like when the dynamics are loud because you can

feel the musics vibrations. For example, when I sign I like to have the

dynamic set high feeling the instruments vibrations which calm my nerves

down. Being that I attended this concert with my best friend and as part of

an assignment I quite enjoyed. After noticing the musical elements, I came to

the conclusion that most song in the Mexican regional music industry carry

the same patterns and rhythms.
