UNIT/TOPIC 3.0 IBS STRUCTURE CLASSIFICATION

**LOCATION DURATION CODE PAGE

ASSIGNMENT Computer 6 hours DCV 20062 1/2
Laboratory
TITLE: A study the implementation of IBS for building construction project in Malaysia
ACTIVITY OUTCOMES
i. Describe the technology related to precast concrete and demonstrate awareness of the
important factors affecting its performance in practical applications
ii. Describe against physical and chemical attack of precast concrete structure
iii. Describe the connection of precast concrete
iv. Describe the use of precast concrete, its advantages and aspects related to its design
application.
DESCRIPTION
Prefabrication is an industrialized process completely in line with modern trends towards faster
and environmentally friendlier construction, higher quality, energy savings and subsequent service
at design and execution. The student possesses a scientific-disciplinary knowledge and
understanding on the performance of the building components in quality controlled conditions.

Every construction system has is own characteristics on construction strategy, specific and
particular demands, stability philosophy, physical properties, etc. To get optimum benefits, the
student should be able to find effective solutions for a precast concrete structure according to
specific rules and detailed information on design guides
APPARATUS/ EQUIPMENT
- Computer
- Internet
- Colour Printer
PROCEDURE DETAILS WORK
Each group consist of 5 member or less will have to
1. Browse the internet / Library books / browse websites / Library books / information and
Interview site staff data gathering should be attached with related pictures
and material.

2. Work on related topic. Work in a group consist of 5 member or less, each

group should be decided ONE (1) BUILDING has been
a constructed using IBS structural in Malaysia.

The contain of report focuses the following topics:

1. Description of the building

-Suitability of precast construction
- Advantages and limitations
- Optimum use of IBS materials

1
2. Preliminary design considerations
- Approaches to design
- Selection of structural precast system
- Frame and skeletal systems
- Bearing walls
- Examples of precast buildings

3. General design principles

- Structural systems and overall stability
- Structural integrity
-Type of connections (column-to-foundation,
column-to-column, beam-to-column,etc.)
- Types of precast floors (hollow core, ribbed,
composite beam-blocks,etc.)
- Modular coordination and standardization
- Example application

Conclude your report with emphasis words.

The assessment is based on the following criteria.

Attachment and format report.

More specific criteria for the assignment t will be

reflected in the assignment rubric.

The assignment report must be submitted as one

document with any necessary appendices, with a
handout presentation by eighteen-week of January-
June 2017 session

CONCLUSION / REMARKS
Precast concrete is a construction product produced by casting concrete in a reusable mold or
"form" which is then cured in a controlled environment, transported to the construction site and
lifted into place. In contrast, standard concrete is poured into site-specific forms and cured on site.
Precast stone is distinguished from precast concrete using a fine aggregate in the mixture, so the
final product approaches the appearance of naturally occurring rock or stone.
