Observation Form 1
1-What was/were the learning objectives/outcomes of the lesson? (Add state objectives if
known, for example, TEKS 111.4. Grade 2.b.)
(6)(D) Verify theorems about the relationships in triangles, including proof of the Pythagorean
Theorem, the sum of interior angles, base angles of isosceles triangles, midsegments, and
(9)(A) Determine the lengths of sides of angles in a right triangle by applying the trigonometric
(9)(B) Apply the relationships in special right triangles 30,60,90 and 45,45,90 and the
cones, and spheres and identify three-dimensional objects generated by rotations of two-
dimensional shapes.
Mr. Denizli did begin the lesson with warm up questions. During the warm up time Mr. Denizli
took the attendance. There were three questions which was related the previous lesson. . After
almost five minutes he started new topic. He gave them some instruction and asked them to work
on three questions with their partners. He repeated three times and asked questions about the new
topic to check if students understood the topic or not. The teacher ended the classroom by talking
3-What did the teacher use for teaching materials or instructional aids/equipment?
Mr. Denizli did use the projector, document camera and internet in order to hook
students attention. He also used power point, Note book and clicker. Instructor also uses the text
book in order to clarify the objective for students. I did realize that textbooks and curriculum
4-Which instructional methods and strategies did the teacher use? ( lecture, inquiry,
discovery learning, discussions, games or simulations, demonstrations, cooperative learning,
integration of technology, socrative questioning, etc)
Mr.Denizli used the lecturing method most of the time by integrating technology to his
instruction. He also used demonstrations to show the steps of the solution for each part of her
instruction. She used whole class discussion while he was teaching and wanted his students to
5-How did the teacher assess learning? (informal, formal, formative, summative, oral, open-
ended, quiz, feedback etc) See Chapter 8 for more information on assessment methods
Mr. Erdemli did assess formal learning technique. He did accomplish an oral assessment and also
give some feedbacks to learners response. He did explain the topic clearly to all students and
check whether they learned or not. He used informal assessment by monitoring them while they
were working on their assignments. He visited almost all the tables tree times to make sure
6- What can you say about the teachers philosophy/beliefs and style?
(Traditional/progressive, behaviorist, student-centered vs. teacher centered, authoritative etc)
Since it was the geometry class, his teaching was teacher and student centered, the classroom
environment was not boring. He managed the classroom very well. He divided the students into
three groups and then he let the students work together in order to interact together. He also used
7-How does the teacher manage classroom? Can you identify classroom management
techniques used?
He tried to make sure all students understand the objective. He also used tone of voice and body
language when it is necessary. Thus he can easily grab the student attention. He did try to
communicate with his entire student and keep their attention to the topic. He also did walk all
around the classroom thus all students behave well. I noticed that he was open for the new ideas
and even when he had problem with one question he asked his students what would be the next
step. After he finished with the question he encouraged his students verbally.
8-Observe in the classroom setting and determine types of behavior students play when off-
task. What do they do when they are not paying attention? How does the teacher re-direct
them or get them back on task?
Most of his students were on task almost all the time. But there are quite a few students who
were sleepy and they would like to put their head on the desk but Mr. Denizli did not let them
sleep. He did walk through these students desk and ask them some questions in order to keep
He had really positive communication with his class and he used verbal communication. He used
body language and facial expressions. He was talking the sum of inner angles of a triangle and
wanted to show a triangle by using his arms. He said he could not do it and one student showed
10-Who were the students in the class? What did you notice about them? (Background,
diversity, attitude, motivation, interaction, participation, etc)
It was a diverse classroom from different backgrounds. Almost all students were participating at
all time and they were motivated when they enter the classroom. There were some ESL and quite
a few special ed students as well. So Mr. Denizli gave these students modified assessment.
11-What did you see that is effective in engaging students? What do you see that is
ineffective in keeping students engaged?
Walking around the student desks was one of the most effective ways in order to grab student
attention. Thus Mr. Denizli engages to student easily. He was actively monitoring the students
while he was teaching. That also helps students to pay attention to class. There were a few quite
students who were working alone, he did not check if they were really working or not.
12-What are the two instructional strategies you observed and would like to apply in your
classroom?
Summarizing, and note taking were one of the important instructional strategies that I observed.
Mr. Denizli let students to copy the board and explain the definitions. He also asked students to
copy the important parts of the objective. Thus the students were learning while they were
copying the board. Mr. Denizli also wanted his students to solve the problems together which we
13-What are two important classroom management strategies that you observed and would
like to apply in your classroom?
One of the important classroom management strategies was fairness and walking around the
students. Thus the teacher monitors the students easily. He can see all students what they are
doing. Thus the teacher applies the school rules whoever breaks it. I noticed that he was fair to
