ASSURE Model Lesson Plan

Introduction

Educators are continuously seeking new and innovative methods to refine and improve

classroom instruction. In recent years, integrating technology has enhanced classroom

instruction. It is the responsibility of teachers to effectively incorporate this technology into

meaningful instruction. In this lesson, the student will learn the importance of privacy, copyright

and plagiarism.

Lesson Title: Ethical and Legal Issues of Technology Acceptable Use Policies

Grade Level: Grade 9th

Lesson Length: 70 minutes

I. Analyze Learners

Learners general characteristics: The lesson is designed for 9th grade high school

students. This is a class comprised of 7 male and 11 female

students, of which 6 students have IEP accommodations. Academic ability and

This lesson will be modified for students with 504 Plans or IEPs by providing them with

assistance included by not limited to the following: By dividing each requirement into a mini-

lesson for students to complete one portion of the project at a time, allow flexible grouping

(seating) for students with modifications to sit near a person they are comfortable asking for help

and/or they can, practice and demonstrate each requirement together so students with

modifications can visually see the required steps to complete each mini lesson, and by engaging

students with different learning styles by allowing them to opportunities to use various written
and/or presentation materials such as the dictionary to define vocabulary words, teacher

proximity.

II. State Standards and Objectives

This lesson is designed to meet Common Core Standards for Computer Science. The

standards covered in this lesson plan include:

Objective 1: What will the students know, understand and be able to do as a result of

designed for this lesson.

Technology and Materials. Materials used to in this lesson include Edmodo, the Internet

YouTube (http://www.trhs.weber.k12.ut.us/harkness/WebQuest_files/webq8.htm), and

Promethean Board, PowerPoint.

Media. Students will use print, audio, texts, visuals such as photos, and clip art to

complete the assignments.

IV. Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials

Prepare the materials: With the assistance of the instructional technology coordinator,
Classroom computers and chrome books will be checked and ready for student

use. Appropriate software will be accessible to the students.

Prepare the environment: Desks are to be arranged in a manner that allows for small

group work. Additionally, a computer station must be accessible to all students

to complete various aspects of the assignment.

V. Require Learner Participation

Student participation in this lesson will include both individuals and small group

activities. The lesson is structured to begin with a small group instruction and activities to

prepare for the individual activities.

Students will type, answer then save the posted Essential Question and watch

introductory video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC5t0vlcthU on Acceptable Use

Policy.

Student will take notes from the PowerPoint introduction and begin the AUP Web Quest

(in Edmodo) by saving the plagiarism notes template to complete and submit.

Students will save their work and participate in a round-robin review of new information

they learned on AUP from the Webquest

VI. Evaluate and Revise

Students will be graded per the criteria listed on the rubric.

Conclusion

The ASSURE lesson plan model aids in the incorporation of technology into classroom

instruction. It serves as a guide for teachers and focuses on the level of technological

support applied. The proper use of this model will enrich daily lessons and student

activities and maximize the potential of available technologies.
