Here's what we're learning this week:

Reading: We will be reading a new book called King Kafu and the Moon. Students will be
introduced to the book this week and work on learning about the characters, setting, and
details.

Phonics: This week we will learn how a says aw when followed by an l, as in ball.
Students will also learn the red word gone.

Writing: We are going a different direction in writing. The kids have loved listening to the
Tour the States YouTube video during calendar so I decided to let the kids pick a state
they would like to learn more about and research. Each kid has their state and we are
beginning to research!

Math: Math workshop is going great so far! Because of the half days, we will take a break
from the math lessons and take Monday and Tuesday to complete some end of year
assessments.

Social Studies/Science: We will be working on a new unit, sorting things out. In this unit,
we look at characteristics of objects: color size, shape, hard, soft, rough, smooth, flexible,
rigid, magnetic, nonmagnetic.

Other news:

Library: There will be no more library checkout for the rest of the year. When
students finish reading their books, please return them. Students should be sure to
return their books the week of May 22.
Economics Field Trip: Just a reminder to my chaperones, please come with your
walking shoes around 8:30. This way I will be able to give you your group and fill you
in on the details.
