I am honored to have the opportunity to write this letter of recommendation in support of my student, Mariel
Carreon. I have known Mariel and her family for many years, but I feel very fortunate this year to have Mariel as a
student in my Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition class at Merced High School. It has been
both my pleasure and privilege to witness her incredible growth and development, academically and personally and
it is with much sincerity that I write this letter on her behalf.

Throughout the years I have known her, Mariel has proven to be an extraordinary young woman. She is intelligent
and respectful and carries herself with integrity and determination. Academically, she has continued to challenge
herself by enrolling in Advanced Placement or Honors classes throughout her four years, and proving that she could
excel in all of them. She currently has an impressive grade point average of 4.4 and this exceptional academic
record has enabled her to be a part of the California Scholarship Federation all four years and qualified her for the
honor of being chosen to attend Camp RYLA last year! She is clearly a dedicated student and individual. In
addition to Mariel's excellent academic accomplishments, she has been actively involved in extra-curricular
activities on campus including clubs and athletics. Mariel has been an integral part of the Merced High Key Club
and Interact Club. Student government has also been a very important part of her high school experience. She has
served as the Junior Class Vice President, and is currently the Associated Student Body Secretary. In addition to
these activities, she has also been a member of the JV girls volleyball and swimming/diving teams her freshman
year and has played Varsity tennis for the last three years. Another impressive attribute is definitely her dedication
to community service work. Mariel has volunteered over 150 hours of her time and energy to give back to our
school and community. Mariel's academic achievement, work ethic, community service, and strong personal
attributes undoubtedly account for her continued success.

I recommend Mariel with absolute confidence. She knows the importance of education and the reward of strong
personal character. She has set extensive educational and career goals and I have no doubt that Mariel will continue
to rise to any challenge that she faces in college and beyond. Overall, her excellent qualities will remain with her
and continue to make her successful in all of her future endeavors. It has sincerely been a pleasure for me to know
Mariel and be her teacher. I highly and enthusiastically recommend her.
