PHILOSOPY OF TEACHING
I touch the future. I teach. Christina McAuliffe

I believe our students are our future. Each of our students has the potential to bring
something unique and special to the world. Teaching is an important and honourable occupation
that demands commitment. There are miracles, learning, healing, laughter, sharing and love
every day in classrooms all around the world. A teacher has the opportunity to impact on
students lives in a positive way; this is a huge privilege that shouldnt be taken lightly.
My personal philosophy of education has been changing since the first moment I stepped
into an education course. However, I don't see this as something that is negative. In fact, I think
that a teacher's personal philosophy of education should forever be evolving. Teachers should
continually make efforts to inform themselves of new technology or innovations that help to
facilitate learning in the classroom.
I believe that each student has the capacity to accomplish any goal that is set for them as
long as they feel connected to what they are learning; without a link between the students and
material, the interest is lost and the learning is harder and may take more time. According to Jean
Piaget's theory of development and learning, a developing child builds cognitive structures, or
schemes, that connect previous knowledge and/or experiences to new knowledge. This
connection cultivates the student's understanding and responding to his or her environment. As a
student makes progress, his or her cognitive structures increase in sophistication.
A teacher must also have positive expectations. This means believing in each student and
believing that the student can learn and be successful. Students only learn as much as the teacher
expects; teachers who set high expectations for their students will receive higher achievement
from their students. It is amazing to see what students can accomplish when they know and sense
that someone believes in them. It is my aspiration as an educator to help students meet their
fullest potential by establishing an environment where my students feel safe, are comfortable
taking risks with new learning, and presents them with opportunities to share their thoughts and
ideas.
My philosophy of education aligns itself closely to that Jerome Bruner's Theory of
Constructivism. In the Constructivist theory, the learner selects and transforms information,
constructs hypotheses, and makes decisions; its focus is on knowledge construction, not
recitation of knowledge. Knowledge is constructed through one's personal experiences, previous
knowledge, and beliefs. For me as an educator, this means that I try and encourage students to
discover principles by themselves. I give them the opportunity to have dialogue among their
peers and with myself. My main task as a teacher is to present information to be learned that
matches or closely matches the student's current level of learning. My curriculum is organized in
a spiral manner, so that students continually build upon what they have already learned. As the
teacher I would also try to modify my teaching strategies to student responses and encourage my
students to analyze, interpret, and predict information in the course of their learning. An
educator's personal philosophy of education is an important element in their approach to
instruction.

A TEACHERS PRAYER

A prayer sutable for a teacher to pray for their own work and students

Father, please fill me with your understanding as I instruct others,

Help me to see the individual potential of every student I teach.
Father, please fill me with your patience as I teach others,
Help me to keep giving of my time and energy, especially to those who
struggle the most.
Father, please give me your divine wisdom as I am with my class,
Show me when I must discipline and when I can show mercy.
Father, help me to depend totally on You,
For You are the source of my strength, courage and peace.

Father, above all, may I love and care for each student I teach.
Show me how to serve as Christ serves
Give as Christ gives
Love as Christ loves.

I ask all this in the precious name of Jesus,

My Saviour and friend.

Amen.
INTRODUCTION

Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills,

values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include storytelling, discussion, teaching,
training, and directed research. True education is simply the process of developing the ability to
learn, apply, unlearn, relearn. Learning. Training and practice are major components of
developing expertise in whatever human beings do. Education is a very vital tool that is used in
the contemporary world to succeed. It is important because it is used to mitigate most of the
challenges faced in life. The knowledge that is attained through education helps open doors to a
lot of opportunities for better prospects in career growth.
An ideal teacher, above all, should be a good teacher. His teaching ability should be
such so as to attract the attention of the students easily. He should teach in a way so that any
topic, however hard it may be, can be easily understood by the students.
As a student teacher you will have to find ways to improve what you teach and convey it
successfully to the students. Maintaining a portfolio is one way of assessing your knowledge and
skills as a teacher. You should also keep track of your students progress, most importantly, what
they have learned in your class. This will allow you to better understand the different needs of
the children in your class and continuously improve your practice.
This narrative report is all about the experiences gained by the author at the Caraga State
University, Cabadbaran Campus and Cabadbaran City National High School.
The overwhelming confidence that the author has important information included in her

to her life she was able to surpass and that, shes thankful to God because she knows that all was
done with His guidance and blessings.

A Brief Narrative Report of Experience

In
IN/OFF-Campus Practice-Teaching

If you will come to think of it, being a student isnt an essay role, what more is to be a
teacher? But what makes more challenging is when these two words- student and teacher-
smashed, ending up with student- teacher.
To be a student teacher or to have practice teaching is an integral and important of all
teacher training programs. It is a practical and hands- on type of work that will really prepare and
train would be teacher in the real battle field of teaching that is why it is highly valued compared
the other courses during the training of future teachers like me.
The student teaching experience is frequently cited having the highest impact on future
teaching behaviors of candidate teachers. And or me, my student teaching experience was the
most meaningful portion of my professional preparation as an educator.
By glancing in this narrative report, you will have a glimpse of what took place during
my student teaching period- the learning and experience which are bitter yet fruitful; the
hardships and struggles Ive gone through as I reach my goal of becoming a full pledge teacher;
the memories that will forever remain carved in my heart; and the fulfilment and the joys of my
teaching experience.

On-Campus
Orientation was made before the deployment of the different assigned school whether in
or out campus. In my orientation experiences I learned about what and why about Practice
Teaching Program.
The teaching education curriculum of any teacher training institution has a very valuable
component which education students undertaken for one semester. This is student teaching which
is considered the keys phase of the student teacher education program. Many educators view it as
the most important experience in the professional education of a prospective teacher. Here the
future teachers get a feel of the school and a fell of the teacher.
The orientation was indeed very beneficial to us because in the phase we were learned the
do and donts being a practice teacher. We were also taught and reminded on how we are going
to pass this course.

Off- Campus
I am designated as an adviser to a grade 7 in CCNHS, I do have three subjects in my hand
and a whole day class with three section for a whole week, Grade 7(Bread and Pastry), Grade
7(MAPEH) and Grade 9(Poultry Cookery).
The school is guided by the following core values: Maka- Diyos, Makatao at Makabansa.
Also the school envision to offer education which produce graduates imbued with human values
participative to and to any school activities and a God- fearing Filipino.
That was indeed very fruitful, challenging and full knowledge yet very enjoyable
experience.
Id be happy to share with you all these experiences in my journey and may you also be
inspired to follow the steps of our great teacher- Jesus Christ.
