Digital Artifacts: Notebook 9

Digital artifacts can be due to a number of things such as technologist error, CR reader
error, laser error, CR plate errors, or the digital equipment itself. Some of the more common ones
in digital radiography are:

A faulty detector element which is distinguished by a distinguished white line

running down the image, this may be due to dust being on the laser.

Ghost imaging this may appear as two images over top of each other, it could be
subtle or extremely noticeable. This is typically a technologist error if they do not
erase a cassette after they have used it. It could also be a result of a worn down
imaging plate or a faulty image reader.

Damaged CR plates this is an artifact that cannot be fixed and must be replaced
with a new plate.
Loose collimator filters this is an artifact that must be corrected by a service
technician and would appear on each image, (N.a., 2014).

Plate reader electronic malfunction if the CR reader begins to malfunction liner

streaks will appear on every image ran through that reader.
