Professional Working

I worked with other teachers during an Ash Lock presenter time in May
2017 in Whitethorn Elementary School to learn Ashlock cvvc, how to present
words to students, and watched a very enlightening video on the subject. I
never went to an Ashlock meeting before and can I tell you it was nothing like I
imagined it to be. Teachers learning about something that seemed simple on the
surface, but went so much deeper. One teacher even had trouble with doing the
presentation, as she was not used to the work used in the program.

I went to a 2nd/3rd grade teacher meeting in the Bluefield Intermediate School

in May 2017 to discuss with teachers in higher grades how to prepare the students
for their transfer over into the next grade level. Worked with the other Whitethorn
2nd grade teachers to work out plans and shared them with the other teachers. Once
again I was surprised to learn that this was a recent addition to the meeting
schedule. I had thought teacher did this all the time, come together to discuss how
to work with students coming into the next grade, a very interesting experience
indeed.

I worked on and with the social project Wicked Insects and Plants that was
presented at the Bluefield Intermediate School on May 13, 2017. Help make the
spiders, watched over the poison ivy making in class by students, taught facts to
students went to the attraction at Bluefield Intermediate School and had a good
time doing the entire project with Mrs. Guill and the other teachers. This was my
favorite as I got to help make something for students to look at and be amazed by
during our time off in the classroom. I wanted to make sure everything went
according to plan and hoped that my worked paid off, which by the way it did pay
off in the end. The social/science project was a sight to behold and I know many
people loved it at the Bluefield Intermediate School.
In 2015 I attended a career day in the First County Vocational Center as a
student teacher. There I talk to and observed students and other people talk on their
experiences in both the classroom and workplace. It was an interesting experience
to attend. I had never been to one of these kinds of events before and seeing how it
worked from the inside was an treat to me. I signed a couple of papers, work with
others, and talk to students wanting to get into different programs.

At Bluefield Intermediate School in 2015 I also went and volunteered as a

judge for the Science/Social studies fair. During my time there I work with other
judges to see which project hard accurate information, design, and look well made.
The students projects were fun to observe and judge, we also heard students
prepared speeches on their projects. You could easily tell who was excited by their
projects and those who were more excited to be judged.

At Bluewell Elementary School I did some judging at their Science/Social

Studies Fair in 2014. Their projects were also fun to observe and to judge, but it
was my first time volunteering for such an event. I was worried I might hurt
someones feelings or misjudge a project. It ended all in good times with little
problems other than a display almost falling. Students also prepared speeches for
their projects most of them were outgoing and felt comfortable with their speech.
Others were just a little nervous at the speech making, but they made it through.

I also volunteered for an after school fair at Ceres Elementary School in

2014 I believe, there I worked with teachers and parents to allow the children a
good time in their parking lot. There were bouncing castles, face painting, fair
games, and pumpkin carving to name a few. It was a fun experience to have and I
am glad to have it in my memory.
During my time at Bible Baptist Church (1991-2017) I have worked as a
Sunday school teacher in the latter years. I did that over the years as many of the
older people of church simply no energy to work with kids or wanted to hear the
preaching. I decided to help out and was put into the position as assistant and soon
became a teacher. My time there has taught me to be more flexible with students
and knowing how to teach multiple age ranges.

During my time at Bluefield State College I attended Mrs. Guills

presentation on Star Testing that she presented in Dr. Stiltners class which I
believe was Educ. 371. During her time there I learned the proper way of
understanding how the Star Testing affects the school and the students. How a
student falling into the red is not acceptable and how green and blue show how
well the student progresses.

Also during my time at Bluefield State College I attended Mrs. Guills

presentation on classroom management. Her advice on classroom management
also helped me a great deal when dealing with my own classroom during student
teaching. She presented topics and made sure that she clearly made knowledge
known to the students
