In 1990, the Russian government anniounced the cap-
ture ofa man wanted for nearly a decade forthe murder and mutation
‘of dozens of women and children. The crimes ofthe Lesopotosa Killer, also
dubbed the Maniac, were frst noted asa series in 1982 with three corpses
found in wooded areas in quick succession. The first victim was a young
git, and it appeared from her postmortem posture that she had tried to
fight someone off. Two ribs were broken, and they evidenced numerous
stab wounds into the bone. A knife had apparently cut into her eye sock
